BOOM SHAKALAKA!!! - The Hayli Gubii Volcano In Ethiopia, East Africa ERUPTS On November 23, 2025 For The First Time In Ten Thousand Years

Stefan Burns, Nov 23, 2025  #earth #earthquakes #geophysics

Hayli Gubii, a small volcano in the Afar region of Ethiopia erupted in spectacular fashion today November 23rd 2025 after having been dormant for 10,000+ years. For decades pressure has been building across much of the East African Rift Valley from the relentless magmatic activity of the African Superplume actively tearing the continent apart, and this volcanic eruption could be the first signs of large-scale pressure release across the entire zone. Geophysicist Stefan Burns reports

PANCOCOJAMS EDITOR'S NOTE
I've emphasized the phrase "Boom Shakalaka" in the title of this post and I've given special attention to the comments in the discussion thread of Showcase Video #1 that consist of or that include the phrase "boom shakalaka".

Here's an excerpt from an AI excerpt about that phrase (Retrieved on November 25,2025):
"
Musical origins: The phrase's phonetic structure can be traced to the "boom-laka-laka-laka" refrain in Sly and the Family Stone's 1969 song "I Want to Take You Higher".

Film influence: The altered version, "boom-shaka-laka-laka," appeared in the 1981 film Stripes, and the phrase was noted by a scriptwriter for NBA Jam, says Wiktionary.

Video game popularization: In 1993, the phrase was used by NBA Jam announcer Tim Kitzrow to exclaim over a slam dunk, leading to its widespread popularity."...
-end of quote-

Geophysicist Stefan Burns has used the phrase "boom shakalaka" in his podcasts to refer to "coronal mass ejections" (an event in which a large cloud of energetic and highly magnetized plasma erupts from the solar corona into space, causing radio and magnetic disturbances on the earth.

Stefan Burns' use of the phrase "boom shakalaka" to refer to coronal mass ejections, and also to refer to volcanic eruptions has resulted in that phrase invariably being used by some commenters in discussion threads of his podcast. Read examples of those types of comments below.in this pancocojams post. Although "boom shakalaka" is usually used as an exclamation", notice that in one example of this compilation, it is used as a noun (i.e. "boom shakalakas".

SHOWCASE VIDEO #2 - A Major Explosive Volcanic Eruption Just Occurred in Africa; Geologist Analysis

GeologyHub, Nov 23, 2025

A major explosive volcanic eruption unexpectedly began this morning at Ethiopia's Hayli Gubbi volcano, leading to the generation of an ash cloud the size of Portugal. Lengthy pyroclastic flows were generated, and heavy ashfall has occurred. Today's video discusses the ongoing eruption via the knowledge and analysis of a geologist.

This video's thumbnail image will display as 1 of 2 different images for different viewers.

"This is because of the current ongoing Geomagnetic Excursion (Pole Shift). The Earth's rotation is speeding up and pushing magma towards the surface. This is also why the AMOC is waning. Hayli Gubii hasn't erupted since the Younger-Dryas and the last Geomagnetic Excursion called the Gothenburg Excursion. The Phlegraean Fields Caldera are also becoming highly active."

"Flight radar shows that the area at the moment is being avoided by aircraft, but flight IYE611 (Yemenia Fligth 661, an A320) is still flying directly into the area of the ash cloud over the Red Sea, as of me writing this. It's a direct flight from Cairo to Aden. It's at 35,000 feet. Most flights are going directly west of the area before turning east, south of the ash cloud, above Somalia.

"There are many volcanoes and some are in remote locations with hardly anyone living nearby. Someone needs to pay for 24 x7 monitoring equipment and maintain it.  And need a few people constantly monitoring. Dr AstroGeoTech, November 23, 2025
"
Hayli Gubbi is a shield volcano located in the Afar Region of Ethiopia. It is the southernmost volcano of the Erta Ale Range. Until November 2025, there was no known record of any eruptions of this volcano within the past 10,000 years.

On November 23, 2025, the Toulouse Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre released an advisory bulletin stating that an explosive volcanic eruption was underway, and an ash plume had been detected in satellite imagery. The initial eruption is reported to have occurred at 08.30 UTC, with an ash plume reaching 45,000 feet (flight level 450). Erta Ale (or Ertale or Irta'ale; Amharic: แŠคแˆญแ‰ณแˆŒ) is a continuously active basaltic shield volcano in the Afar Region of northeastern Ethiopia. It is situated in the Afar Depression, a barren desert area. Erta Ale is the most active volcano in Ethiopia. Erta Ale is 613 metres (2,011 ft) high, with one or sometimes two active lava lakes at the summit which occasionally overflow on the south side of the volcano. It is notable for holding the longest-existing lava lake, present since the early years of the twentieth century (1906). Volcanoes with lava lakes are very rare: there are only eight in the world. Erta Ale means "smoking mountain" in the local Afar language and its southernmost pit is known locally as "the gateway to Hell". In 2009, it was mapped by a team from the BBC using three-dimensional laser techniques, in order for the mapping team to maintain a distance and avoid the lakes' searingly hot temperatures. Erta Ale is centered over the East African Rift system, which is a triple junction setting whose movements are resulting in the formation of a pull-apart basin or rift. The volcano comprises mainly mafic material which has been brought up to the surface caused by unroofing of the mantle due to this rift formation. There was a major eruption on 25 September 2005 which killed 250 head of livestock and forced thousands of nearby residents to flee. There was further lava flow in August 2007, forcing the evacuation of hundreds and leaving two missing. An eruption on 4 November 2008 was reported by scientists at Addis Ababa University. Another eruption was reported in January 2017. Volcano erupts for first time in 12,000 years: "Like a sudden bomb"

CBSNews, November 24, 2025
"A volcano in Ethiopia's northeastern region erupted for the first time in nearly 12,000 years, sending thick plumes of smoke up to nine miles into the sky, the Toulouse Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) said.

The Hayli Gubbi volcano, located in Ethiopia's Afar region about 500 miles northeast of Addis Ababa near the Eritrean border, erupted on Sunday for several hours.

The volcano, which rises about 1,500 feet yards in altitude, sits within the Rift Valley, a zone of intense geological activity where two tectonic plates meet.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE SONG "I WANT TO TAKE YOUR HIGHER"
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Want_to_Take_You_Higher
"I Want to Take You Higher" is a song by the soul/rock/funk band Sly and the Family Stone, the B-side to their top 30 hit "Stand!". Unlike most of the other tracks on the Stand! album, "I Want to Take You Higher" is not a message song; instead, it is simply dedicated to music and the feeling one gets from music. Like nearly all of Sly & the Family Stone's songs, Sylvester "Sly Stone" Stewart was credited as the sole songwriter.[3]

Composition

"I Want to Take You Higher" opens with a bluesy guitar riff played by Freddie Stone. The song, one of the most upbeat recordings in the Family Stone canon, is a remake of sorts of "Higher", a song from the band's 1968 Dance to the Music LP. "Higher" itself has its origins in "Advice", a song Sly Stone co-wrote and arranged for Billy Preston's album The Wildest Organ in Town in 1966.

[…]

Chart performance

Even though it was a B-side, "I Want to Take You Higher" became a top 40 hit (No. 38) of its own in 1970. That same year, Ike & Tina Turner released a cover of the song that became a hit as well, peaking above the original Family Stone recording on the Billboard Hot 100 (at No. 34), and one position below the original on the R&B singles chart"....

B. Definitions For "Boom Shakalaka" Prior To Its Use In Relationship With Ai Atlas and the
Source #1: AI Overview [retrieved on October 24, 2025]
"Boom shakalaka" is an interjection expressing excitement, triumph, or dominance, popularized in the 1990s by the NBA Jam video game announcer. The phrase likely originated from a misheard lyric in Sly and the Family Stone's 1969 song "I Want to Take You Higher" and became an onomatopoeia for a powerful basketball dunk, according to this Facebook post, Wiktionary, and Quora.

Meaning and usage

An exclamation: It's an expression of excitement, joy, triumph, or dominance.

Onomatopoeia: "Boom" can represent the sound of a basketball hitting the rim, and "shakalaka" can represent the rattling sound of the net during a powerful dunk, notes Quora and this YouTube video.

Popular context: It is famously associated with basketball, especially for slam dunks.

Example: You might say "Boomshakalaka!" to affirm a great play or achievement.

Origin

Musical roots: The phrase may have originated from a mishearing of the "boom-laka-laka-laka" lyrics in the 1969 song "I Want to Take You Higher" by Sly and the Family Stone.

NBA Jam: The term was popularized by the 1992 video game NBA Jam, where the announcer Tim Kitzrow famously used it to describe powerful dunks. Kitzrow later attributed the phrase's popularity to a scriptwriter who saw it in the movie Stripes.

MORE ON HOW STEFAN BURNS USED THE TERM "BOOM SHAKALAKA" IN HIS OCTOBER 24, 2025 PODCAST ABOUT 3 I Atlas
In his October 24, 2025 podcast Geophysicist Stefan Burns referred to coronal mass ejections the two or three times he used the term "Boom Shakalaka".

Here's a portion of the information about coronal mass ejections that I included in Part I of this pancocojams series on 3 I Atlas and "Boom Shakalaka":

Coronal mass ejections
From https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/phenomena/coronal-mass-ejections "Coronal Mass Ejections"
"
Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are large expulsions of plasma and magnetic field from the Sun’s corona. They can eject billions of tons of coronal material and carry an embedded magnetic field (frozen in flux) that is stronger than the background solar wind interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) strength. CMEs travel outward from the Sun at speeds ranging from slower than 250 kilometers per second (km/s) to as fast as near 3000 km/s. The fastest Earth-directed CMEs can reach our planet in as little as 15-18 hours. Slower CMEs can take several days to arrive. They expand in size as they propagate away from the Sun and larger CMEs can reach a size comprising nearly a quarter of the space between Earth and the Sun by the time it reaches our planet.

The more explosive CMEs generally begin when highly twisted magnetic field structures (flux ropes) contained in the Sun’s lower corona become too stressed and realign into a less tense configuration – a process called magnetic reconnection. This can result in the sudden release of electromagnetic energy in the form of a solar flare; which typically accompanies the explosive acceleration of plasma away from the Sun – the CME...
-snip-
Given that information, I think that Stefan Burns used the term "boom shakalaka" to emphasize the explosive nation of those expulsions as expressed by the word "Boom" and at the same time he was expressing how "cool" (amazing, awesome) coronal mass ejections (and also 3I/Atlas) are.
