This pancocojams post showcases a Mansa Mayne YouTube vlog and presents some comments from that vlog's discussion thread and from two other Mansa Mayne vlog discussion threads.

These comments provide the origins and meanings for certain first names from the nation of South Africa and/or focus on the cultural/ethnic implications of Mansa Mayne being given a Zulu name by a South African man and using that name instead of the Tswana name that some South African subscribers to his YouTube blog gave him several years ago.

The content of this post is presented for socio-cultural and onomastic purposes.

Thanks to Mansa Mayne for promoting African music through his YouTube vlogs and thanks to Mansa Mayne for sharing his experiences in South Africa with the world. Thanks also to Mansa Mayne's brother and all others who are featured in this embedded vlog. Thanks also to all those who ae quoted in this post.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT MANSA MAYNE
Mansa Mayne is the self-coined name for an early thirty year old African American YouTube vlogger who became popular (particularly among Africans and even more so among people from the nation of South Africa) as a music reaction vlogger. Music reaction vloggers are people who play a music video-presumably for the first time- and share their reactions to that song/video. Music reaction vloggers also encourage their online viewers to share their reactions to that same video and their reactions to the vloggers' opinions about that song/video in the discussion thread of that vlog. Music reaction vloggers also encourage their  viewers to recommend other songs/videos to showcase on their vlog channel.

In December 2021 Mansa Mayne visited the nation of South Africa for the first time. During that visit he switched his role from a music reaction vlogger to a travel vlogger. Travel vloggers are those who share scenes of their travels and share some of the experiences that they have during their travels.

In late June 2022 Mansa Mayne returned to South Africa accompanied by his biological brother Lionel. Both Mansa and Lionel documented that visit as travel vloggers. During the early part of that second visit, a Johannesburg, South African uber driver gave Mansa Mayne and his brother  Zulu first names. Mansa was given the name "Sansele" and his brother was given the name "Siyabonga."  Most of the comments in this August 2022 pancocojams post focus on some of the comments from discussion threads for three Mansa Mayne vlogs about Mansa using the Zulu name Sansele instead of the Twana name "Tsepho" that South African subscribers to his music reaction vlog had given him around two years ago. Additional comments in this post present origins and meanings for the Zulu name Siyabonga and for a few other South African names that were found in those discussion threads.

That post presents some biographical information about Mansa Mayne and how he coined that particular name for himself.

Pancocojams Editor's Note [Added August 3, 2022]
I've focused on African American vlogger Mansa Mayne because of the linguistic and other cultural information about South Africa that I've found in his YouTube music reaction discussion threads and his YouTube travel discussion threads.

I've also focused on Mansa Mayne because I'm interested in the sociological/psychological ramifications of an African American young man who embraces aspects of a culture (or cultures) different from his own (i.e. South African amapiano music, dance and its associated lifestyles) and is treated like a celebrity when he visits South Africa, even though he doesn't appear to deeply understand the history and cultures of that nation.

I'm also interested in the ramifications of those South Africans who had/have treated Mansa Mayne as a celebrity inspite of what appears to me to his lack of deep knowledge and understanding of the indices and the dynamics of their cultures. What does that say about the South Africans who have so readily stanned this African American man because he embraced some aspects of their culture/s? Will they continue to stan him if he doesn't heed the information and explanations that some South African commenters have given him in these vlog discussion threads? (for instance the comments below about Mansa Mayne shucking the Sotho/Tswana name that had been given to him by his South African subscribers two years ago and replacing that with a Zulu name, perhaps because the Zulus are much more well known and have more cache among African Americans than other South African ethnic groups, i.e "Chaka Zulu". When called out because of this action, Mansa Mayne wrote that he was just joking and would still use his Sotho/Tswana name. That response then led to commenters chiding him that tribalism isn't a joking matter in South Africa.)...

I wonder if Mansa Mayne will go back to being a music reaction vlogger when he returns to the United States (a role that he excelled in), or if he will decide to relocate to South Africa where he is treated as a celebrity?  We shall see what we shall see.

@Mansa Mayne South Africa is a diverse country,if you wanna make everyone happy here don't include cultures just enjoy South Africa without making it like you are praising cultures we South Africans knows that this culture "Zulu" their people are too proud, egotistical and look down on other cultures in SA because they believe they are superior  than other cultures/languages,so when you post anything that is of their culture because they are egostic people they tend to think you like them more than the rest of other cultures then they tend to show their ego and arrogance like I saw some already calling you "Zulu" but before that with Tshepo you were just been called "South African" make everyone happy don't drop Tshepo which is Sotho-Tswana name (Sotho,Pedi and Tswana) You might not know but yes Zulu people are arrogant in SA they like starting fights, they think they own SA which has 9 provinces and 11 or more languages of which we just keep quiet Soloko sithule sibekile🤔 si yi South Africa a bunch of Kzn people are the ones who does more of that than the Zulus in Mpumalanga and Gauteng because Kzn is mainly Zulu and they dont know how it is to mix with other cultures, because they are so closed in that cave of KZN all they see is Zulu and all they date is Zulu,

I'm in Gauteng I am from a certain culture I won't mention but I'm dating Zulu not from Kzn but from Mpumalanga  and our child is from both cultures  and has names in both cultures  and speak two of those languages ,so when you say you are dropping Tshepo some Zulus because they always think they are the "thing" they boost and all of a sudden you are Zulu?...why when you were called Tshepo everyone was like "You are SouthcvAfrican now luckily Sotho-Tswana people don't like drama, not boostful and not emotionally unstable. How about you take both names without ditching the other? and I know this comment is gonna hurt them who are emotionally  unstable  and they gonna start insulting me but I don't have time to read yall comments I was talking to Mansa here, because seems he doesn't know who Zulu people are and how they act like those people are vultures Mansa

THANK YOU 😊

If your name is Siyabonga - that means your parents/family were GRATEFUL for you.

This pancocojams post presents a compilation of selected comments from the discussion thread of this embedded YouTube vlog.

Most of these comments criticise and/or correct misinformation that a "foreign" (non-South African) tour guide gave to African American music reaction vlogger Mansa Mayne during his tour of Cape Town, South Africa (December 17, 2021).

Some of these comments and some independent comments also refer to Mansa Mayne's health. (He had indicated in one of his previous vlogs that was published on Dec. 16, 2021* that he hadn't been feeling well).

SELECTED COMMENTS FROM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkGRBvpvZh0&ab_channel=MansaMayne
These comments are all from Dec. 21, 2021 and are presented in relative chronological order with the oldest comments first, except for replies. Numbers are added for referencing purposes only.

Pancocojams Editor's Note: I read all of the comments as of 2:30 PM and then added a few additional comments around 5:30 PM. I appreciate these comments since I'm not used to hearing that type of accented English and I could only understand a few words that the tour guide said. I think that this is probably the case with most of the people from the USA who have watched this video. I wonder whether Mansa Mayne understood much of what the tour guide said.

"Hi Mansa, I have been following your journey to and around South Africa 🇿🇦.  I am so happy that you came and are enjoying.

I am also happy that you decided to take a tour guide for Cape Town.  It is a very beautiful City. As for your tour guide...no comment.

South Africans love soccer, however the Cape Town stadium is not really used much for soccer only when there are big matches. In most cases the Athlone stadium 🏟  is used the most for soccer matches.  Cape Town stadium  is mostly used for rugby and will be the new home for the Western Provincer Rugby Team as the Newlands rugby stadium will be demolished.

There is more to Cape Town than what you have seen. Depending on your interest, after table mountain and Robbin  Island, you can do some township tours, winery tours, Bo-Kaap and district six.

I love you energy. Take care."

an I jus say that Cape Town is dominated by coloured ppl then black ppl and then white come after...Cape Town is a very expensive city for an average black or coloured person and I get that it was made like that so that not so many of our ppl could b seen and are chuffed away like dirty laundry many NATIVE Capetonians which are predominantly coloured and black are congested in townships whilst other ppl are living it up in Cape Town I wish the tour guide could make more research there’s still so much pain we are going through as a result of Apartheid and things like this awakens that pain"

Ai the tour guide is not explaining the soccer part and the township part right. We llove soccer in cape Town, rugby is number 2 sport in SA,  soccer is number 1. Yes we won 2 rugby world cup, but Soccer is hugest bcoz majority of ppl in SA which is black+colored love soccer. Xhosa are quite good of rugby, bcoz most schools in Eastern cape are rugby schools. "Poor Mansa Mayne sick as hell with the Rona touring Cape Town.  Very unlikely he will be able to past the test to go back to the US anytime soon.   On top of that he is ketching hell from the South Africans for not using a SA tour guide.  He had many SAfricans showing  him Johannesburg that did not know anything about the city or the country, so he can not win.   The good thing is that they love him so much in SA that they are not going to run him out of town like they did with Wode Maya or the African Tigress.   I hope he recover from the corona soon."

"I am not trying to bring any negativity but this is quiet troubling me,  tourist guide job is not for everyone,  you need depth knowledge and history of the area/place you will be doing your work, even an avarage South African is not cut to do that kind of job but yet time and time again when it comes to Cape Town we see videos of tourist guides and even Uber drivers of our brothers/sisters from other African nations saying inaccurate and misleading statements/information to tourists. Amongst other things she said "black people are not from Cape Town"🤔This has to be the dumbest statement anyone can say especially from an African person, at least I know the colonizers agenda when they say such things.  Cape Town has always had diverse ethnicities, coloured people have African (Bantu/Khoisan) and European ancestry and later South/East Asian."

Lol @Mansa Mayne why didn't you use the real south africa for both jhb and cpt. You would have had an amazing experience and not had the flu probably lol

Stay indoors fully clothed for two days not doing anything and you'll get better, then meet up with Julian Albino and Taylor, both from America. Julian experienced SA(Johannesburg)and I honestly think he can give you a better Joburg experience that the one you had. I guess the key is keeping up with people who actually travel themselves. The first guys you were with in jhb unfortunately you could tell they don't really travel around SA and Joburg and to nice, viby places. And now you happened to get a tour guide who doesn't know much either. Seems like you're just not having the best luck finding the right people to make you not want to leave SA😅. Both Julian and Taylor have said they don't want to leave, have made the right friends who have shown them the right places etc..."

Credit to Mansa for visiting.

This lady needs to do more research.

That's what u get when you get a tour guide who is not a south african. Rugby is no longer a white sport...There is more rugby in free State. I love my rugby more than soccer. Our springbok captain is black and theres more black players. Now sports in South Africa has no colour.  Soccer is everywhere that is why we have stadiums in every province. Mixed race where? Its coloured people and not all of them. People from townships they do not rob people, there are criminals who does not necessarily from townships."

As a former assistant tour guide it saddens me that even tourist jobs have went to foreigners. This is not a tour I would've given a tourist on their first trip to Cape Town. The way African immigrants are confident about telling history of South Africa is so scary. Soccer is loved across the country. Rugby is bigger in Pretoria than in Cape Town. Rugby is also love across the country with lesser fanbase in Limpopo. Cricket is loved across the country. There are black people who call Cape Town home.

Seems like South African tourism prefers to hire African immigrants especially in Cape Town to tell the manipulated history. Now I wonder how many tourists have been told that lies"

**
100. Mandlenkosi Ngcukayithobi

"I hope you enjoyed your site seeing Bro. I must note the inaccurate information this foreign lady was providing you

 1. Xhosa's are native to CPT because there was no difference between Xhosa, Khoi and San until whites and slaves arrived, plus these groups fought together to defend the Cape, even DNA proves it. In the Western Cape we have areas called Somerset and Platternburg bay those are areas Xhosa people were removed from and pushed up to the Eastern Cape. These same areas are names of Dutch Generals who fought Xhosa/khoi/San warriors like Chief Chungwa and king Ndlambe. The Xhosa kingdom was divided into two kingdoms under Ndlambe areas includes some parts of WC and Gcaleka which includes parts of EC. So it's an insult to say Natives are not natives in their land.

2. Coloured community is made out of mixed Asian, Angolan, Mozambican, Guinea slaves with Europeans, it is also made out of khoi, San and Xhosa woman who were taken as spoils of War by Europeans, natives and slave mixture. It's a complex layer that must be broken down for you to understand.  Coloureds love and  play soccer, rugby and cricket same as native black South Africans.

3.Cricket is not an Indian sport because it's enjoyed and played by all race groups in SA.

4. RUGBY is not a white sport because it's also enjoyed and played by everyone you can go to the townships or villages to will find people who play that sport so this woman is lying and misrepresenting the truth.

5. This myth that native black South Africans don't belong nor come from the Cape is a lie propelled by revisionist to enforce the empty land theory and white supremacy. Before the 1910 union of South Africa Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape were one country under the British colony and Western Cape was the administrative area of the British Cape of Good hope colony. The British Colony used to impose taxes for all these areas were people were forced to pay tax to the colony in pounds. Types of taxes: cattle tax, hut tax, crop tax, and land tax for those who survived the Glen Grey Act were land owners were reduced to owning 15 hectares of land and were not allowed own more than 15 cattle, the remaining land was taken by the "government". The same labour that was used to build Cape town is the same labour that is being told today that it does not belong there. Imagine.

6. African foreigners are a useful tool by White supremists to push this false narrative and they are willingly complying. Supremist are also sideling locals in their favor hence you will hear narratives that South Africans are " lazy".

7. We must remember during the colonial Era a huge number of Khoi, San and Xhosa were killed and the was a time when the colonial government even issued permits for white soldiers to hunt and kill Khoi and San groups mainly because they were not as organized as Xhosa's. They even used some slaves whom today drive the same narrative while claiming African ancestry.

It is wise to get information from the source instead of the enemy and its allies."
