King and Funk music great James Brown.

This post also presents a few selected comments from the discussion thread of that YouTube video. I've selected these comments not just because of what they say, but how they say it. In particular I'm interested in the use of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) in most of these selected comments. "Yes I remember watching this when it first aired! This is a classic. It was good to see James Brown taking directions from other musicians of another genre. You don’t see that too often. But he did hold his own with them. But the funniest thing about this was when Bobby Bland told him to moan and then after each time he was going to mention some of James Brown song so he mentions papas got a brand new bag the first time, open up the door I’ll get it myself the second time, and then the third time he couldn’t think of any more songs so he said papas got a brand new bag again! πŸ˜‚πŸ€£. But I know James but I got the biggest kick out of when he started naming his songs.

"Where has this been my whole life! Each performer at their best. You know I’m gonna be learning each BB riff - this was simply a golden period for him. Bobby Bland’s growl was awesome πŸ˜† and James Brown killed it. Hey, do you notice how BB plays Lucille like he’s just talking? It’s not a guitar. It’s an extension of him. It’s a voice. Just remarkable."
