This is Part I of a three part pancocojams series on YouTube Videos/Tik Tok compilations of "I'll Be Around" dances
This pancocojams post showcases nine examples of YouTube videos of "I'll Be Around" line dances from 2012-2019. This post also showcases some examples of July-August 2023 YouTube videos of Tik Tok challenge dance performances or Tik Tok line dance performances. The same portion of CeeLo's 2004 record "I'll Be Around" (produced by Timbaland) is the music that is used for both of these types of Tik Tok dance performances.
In addition, the partial lyrics for that portion of CeeLo's 2004 Hip Hop record "I'll Be Around" are included in this pancocojams post.

That post presents selected comments about how the dance known as "I'll Be Around" has truly been around for some time under different names before it was recycled in the summer of 2023 on YouTube and on Tik Tok. Click https://pancocojams.blogspot.com/2023/10/selected-2016-facebook-discussion.html for Part III of this pancocojams series. That post presents selected comments from the 2016 Facebook video discussion thread about line dancing.

Thanks to CeeLo Green and Timberland for their musical legacies. Thanks to all choreographers of these dances and thanks to all those who are featured in these showcased videos. Thanks also to the publishers of these videos on YouTube and on Tik Tok. **** PANCOCOJAMS EDITOR'S NOTE This pancocojams post doesn't include any examples of YouTube videos/Tik Tok compilations that have the same moves or very similar moves (steps) as versions of "I'll Be Around" line dances, but aren't danced to CeeLo's "I'll Be Around" record. Several YouTube commenters have written that these dance moves are from the 1970s and 1980s. Some of the names that I have come across of R&B dances like the steps that are done in "I'll Be Around" dances (from at least 2012 and on) include "Saturday Stepping", "Dance Like My Daddy", "Park Heights Strut", "Baltimore Strut", and "The Bunkey Jr. Strut". (Click https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvstZoWHMzk&t=3s for a Feb 3, 2023 YouTube video of the "Park Heights Strut".) This renewed interest in the "Park Heights Strut" led to a ground swell of interest in CeeLo Green's 2004 "I'll Be Around" song and the steps that had been performed to this song in line dances not solo dances since 2012. As partially documented below, in starting in July 2023 there have been numerous Tik Tok compilations and YouTube shorts of "I'll Be Around" solo (individual) dance challenges and fewer videos on those platforms of "I'll Be Around" (group) line dances. These numerous videos on YouTube, TikTok, and other social media platforms have introduced to many and re-introduced to some the 2004 "I'll Be Around" song and have presented to all viewers its old and new dance moves.
**** PARTIAL LYRICS FOR CEE LO'S SONG "I'LL BE AROUND" THAT IS USED FOR THE TIK TOK CLIPS
Oh! Cee-Lo
You ready to rock with Timbo?
Oh! Let's go, boy!
ATL*, talk to 'em, 'Lo!
[Verse 1: Cee-Lo Green]
How could I possibly, be inconspicuous
When my flow is f--kin** ridiculous?
"That's quite an accent"—See, I'm from the South
But some of the most beautiful things come out my mouth
And I'm on stage just as soon as I come out the house
So I might as well give them something to talk about
I bust a rap to make a blind man believe in the boogie
And if you came here to move with Cee, then boogie on
[Hook: Timbaland (Cee-Lo Green)]
When you want me to come (Holla)
When you want me to come (Call me!)
When you want me to come (I'll be around)
(When you want me to come, yeah, woo! Holla)
-snip-

*ATL= a nickname for Atlanta, Georgia (where Cee Lo Green was born)
**This word is fully spelled out in these lyrics.
**** ADDITIONAL SHOWCASE VIDEOS These videos are given in chronological order and are numbered for referencing purposes only. SHOWCASE VIDEO #2 - Nameless Line Dance
lbwpretty2, Feb. 28, 2016 -snip- This video shows Afro-Brazilians in Rio De Janeiro doing their version of the line dance to CeeLo's record "I'll Be Around". This video was published on Facebook video onFeb.22, 2016. The video on Facebook is a little bit clearer than this YouTube one. There are 24,000 comments on that Facebook page as of Oct. 31, 2023 https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1123619494339222&id=454451501256028&ref=content_filter A few people in the YouTube discussion thread wrote that the club members in that video originated this dance. Given a number of factors-including the fact that there is a 2012 African American video (given above) of a very similarly performed line dance with that same name as well as the fact that the dance moves (such a a modified "Stanky Leg" move) are of African American origin), I believe it would be more correct to say that these Afro-Brazilians created their version of this African American dance. I believe that it is very likely that this Brazilian dance group learned about this dance from watching an online video (probably the video that is given as Showcase video #1). The group then modified the steps to create their version of that dance. Another reason why I believe that this dance is of African American origin is the number of commenters who remember these dance steps from as early as the 1970s.Furthermore, according to a 2017 article (probably) about that Afro-Brazilian dance club that is featured in this video, that club had/has a custom of learning African American dances from YouTube and other secondary sources*, That said, it appears from the online comments that I've read that many people prefer this version of the "I'll Be Around" dance to other versions of that dance. Notice that the YouTube video given as #3 in this post showcases an African American dance group that indicates that they got their version of "I'll Be Around" from a Facebook video of a Brazilian dance club. So-it's likely that the Brazilian club got a version of this dance from African Americans and created their own version. Then an African American dance group saw that Brazilian version of that dance, liked it, and performed it. And the beat goes on and it's all good. *Click https://www.americasquarterly.org/fulltextarticle/the-undeniable-charm-of-brazils-latest-dance-craze/ for an article about an Afro-Brazilian's dance club in Rio de Janeiro. That 2017 article is in English and is entitled "The Undeniable Charm of Brazil’s Latest Dance Craze". Although that article doesn't identify that club as the one whose members are featured in that YouTube/Facebook video, it's seems highly likely that that they are one and the same. **** SHOWCASE VIDEO #3 - I'll Be Around (Call Me) Line Dance
