A fight, conflict generally between two people.
If somebody is making threats or insults towards another person, the insulted could say “you don’t want the smoke” to signify that that person should not continue otherwise it will end in a fight. If they continue and a fight occurs, they are said to have “asked for the smoke.”
Etymology : The word is converted from “smoke,” meaning
particulate matter given off by a fire. In this case, it is likely that gun
smoke from shootouts was related to the shootout itself, and then it was
generalized to mean any fight in general.
