“My Own Drum” (Remix) Music & Lyric Video ft. Missy Elliott | Vivo | Netflix Futures
Netflex Futures, July 30, 2021
-snip-
Here's a summary from another video of this song that is no longer available:
"Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the song. Missy Elliott remixed it. Ynairaly Simo makes us want to sing along.
The film features all-new original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, a score by Alex Lacamoire, and a screenplay by Quiara Alegría Hudes and director Kirk DeMicco (The Croods). Vivo is co-directed by Brandon Jeffords (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2) and voiced by Zoe Saldaña as an overprotective mother, newcomer Ynairaly Simo as her rebellious daughter Gabi, Michael Rooker as a villainous Everglades python, Katie Lowes, Olivia Trujillo & Lidya Jewett as a trio of well-meaning but overzealous scout troopers, Brian Tyree Henry & Nicole Byer as a pair of star-crossed spoonbills, and Leslie David Baker as a Florida bus driver.
VIVO is an exhilarating story about gathering your courage, finding family in unlikely friends, and the belief that music can open you to new worlds.

I think that the name "Ynairaly" is pronounced "Ye-NEER-ah-lee" (with Ye rhyming with the English word "he" and "me". I believe that is how the vlog host pronounced "Ynairaly" in this August 5, 2021 YouTube interview with that actress: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOF6SEBrZVQ&ab_channel=PowerRecordsEnt "Ynairaly Simo Talks Playing Gabi In Vivo, Recording "My Own Drum" & Working With Lin-Manuel Miranda".
If I'm incorrect about that pronunciation, please correct me in the comment section below.
I don't believe that there's any fixed (universally agreed upon) meaning for the personal name "Ynairaly" (or for similarly spelled names such as "Nairaly" and "Naiara").
Please share any information that you may have about these names. Thanks!

LYRICS: MY OWN DRUM
(composer: Lin-Manuel Miranda
singer: Ynairaly Simo)
I bounce to the beat of my own drum
I’m a wow in a world full of ho-hum
I’m a wild young lady
But you know ‘sum?
I’d rather be at home with my own drum
I bounce to the beat of my own drum
I’m a wow in a world full of ho-hum
I’m a wild young lady
But you know ‘sum?
I’d rather be at home with my own drum
I had a violin
But I wrecked the rental
I play the tambourine
And I’m never gentle
See what I mean?
That was accidental
But now that we’re a team
We’ll be instrumental
Instrumental, ha!
See what I did there?
I made a pun, ha!
I’m having fun, ha!
I’m never done, ha!
I’m just a one young woman
Ba rum pa pum pum
I bounce to the beat of my own drum
I’m a wow in a world full of ho-hum
I’m a wild young lady
But you know ‘sum?
I’d rather be at home with my own drum
Extra, extra! Read all about it
I’m extra, extra
The kid that the other kids
Can’t get next to
I got my own seat on the bus
I’ve always been a me, not an us
“You’re at a ten”
“I need you at a three,” ha!
Try that again
I gotta be me, yo
I am a ten
I gotta be free
And I got a friend
We’re a team and we…
Bounce to the beat of our own drum
We’re a wow in a world full of ho-hum
I’m a wild young lady
But you know ‘sum?
I’d rather be at home with my own drum
Solo!
Ha! Now that’s a solo
I’ve always flown solo
I speed up when the world’s in slo-mo
Make it up as I go when I don’t know
And I know
I know it seems like I’m lonely
People assume that I’m lonely
Look at this room
And assume that you know me, homey
You don’t know me
I’m in the zone!
We bounce to the beat of our own drum
We’re a wow in a world full of ho-hum
I’m a wild young lady
But you know ‘sum?
I’d rather be at home with my own drum
We bounce to the beat of our own drum
We’re a wow in a world full of ho-hum
I’m a wild young lady
But you know ‘sum?
I’d rather be at home with my own drum
Bounce!
Bounce!
(Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!)
Bounce!
(Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!)
Bounce!
(Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!)
Where’d you go, huh?

From https://www.distractify.com/p/ynairaly-simo-vivo "The 13-Year-Old Actress Who Plays Gabi in 'Vivo' Has a

"Six years after the release of the hit Broadway musical
Hamilton, Netflix premiered Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first animated film, Vivo.
Since Vivo was released on Netflix on August 6, the film has received mixed
reviews. But everyone can agree that the cast members give a stellar
performance, including 13-year-old breakout star Ynairaly Simo, who plays Gabi.
In the animated musical drama, Lin-Manuel stars as a beloved
kinkajou named Vivo but his somewhat misguided sidekick, Gabi, manages to steal
the show. Since the film’s premiere, fans are dying to know more about the
talented young actress. Here’s what we know about Vivo’s Ynairaly Simo.

Before

...Ynairaly Simo (Gabi)
While this cast is also full of stars in both the acting and
musical world, we have a newcomer here as well. Gabi, the lovable partner to
Vivo throughout the entirety of Vivo, is played by Ynairaly Simo, a young
actress who’s just starting to make her mark.
While she did have a small role in a TV series titled
Creative Galaxy back in 2014 where she played herself, this is her first major
role in the Hollywood world. And hopefully, after playing Gabi in Vivo, we’ll
be seeing a lot more of her soon."

This sounds like Lizzo wrote it
ReplyDeleteHello, Solarsibling.
DeleteI've noticed that some other people agree with you that this "My Own Drum" sounds like Lizzo wrote it.
When I watched the Vivo movie I thought the songs sounded lik Lin-Manuel Miranda before I read that he was a part of the movie and its songs.
Best wishes!
What genre is the beat of this song???
ReplyDeleteHello, Anonymous. You asked "What genre is the song "My Own Drum" from the movie "Vivo".
DeleteI think it's a mash up (a combination of a lot of different genres". If I were being facetious, I would say its genre is "Lin-Manuel Miranda" ;o)
I searched the internet looking for the answer to you question, but didn't find one. But here's an article addresses that topic:
https://www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/lin-manuel-miranda-vivo-music_54761.html
..."Penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alex Lacamoire (both of Hamilton and In the Heights fame), the music in the film ...straddles a plethora of genres, with reggaeton, charanga, rumba, warasa or salsa spliced with more modern, bass-y tunes (Missy Elliot even appears on the album) and R&B. Miranda also leans on his freestyle passions – since Miami in the '80s was a hotbed of freestyle music."...
-end of quote-
But maybe that article DOES answer your question. Maybe "My Own Drum" 's music genre is "freestyle".
Thank you very much. This was quite helpful.
DeleteYou're welcome.
DeleteBest wishes!
