" @ZizouShifty  Several reasons to be honest:

1. A lot of them  were born and raised there so they feel more of a connection to those countries than their countries of origin.

2. Those national teams have better facilities and (except for England) have a higher chance of winning trophies than their home countries.

3. European national teams actually care for their veterans. They pay them better than African teams on average (who sometimes don’t even pay their players at all) and give them benefits after they retire if they’ve made a certain amount of appearances. Meanwhile some legends from the 1994 Super Eagles team are languishing in poverty and nobody in the football federation cares.

So yeah I wouldn’t blame any player for picking those countries. Can’t lie though I was really hurt when Saka snubbed us on Independence Day. :("

"@Honest pendu fan   @El compa AMLO  True but the reality & problem is that the majority of that talent tends to choose to play for an adopted country for a better chance at winning honours such as the World Cup.

The sooner the infrastructure in Africa develops level footing with Europe, the better. Then they will choose Africa & we'll live to see an African nation lift the World Cup!

That starts with putting the money back into the continent, not into people's pockets & European teams organising preseason friendlies & tournaments in Africa."

"
I'm from west africa, Nigeria in particular. I've traveled around west africa and there's is much more talented footballers here, there are many rising footballers that will never make it to the big stage because of the wide spread corruption in the footballing system. With lots of agent asking for bribes and high fees which are impossible to get just for a player to get a shot at trial at an established footballing organization. Also the medical assistant provided for these young players are awful. I was a FIfa registered player when I was 17 but I had series of injuries in which my mother had to shell out of her own expense to get me patched up, after a while she advised me to quit and I don't say I regret the decision.

Many many extremely talented young players has been lost to silly tiny injuries and agent atrocious bribe request. I now live in Europe and I have seen more talents on the street of west africa than every where I've been in Europe.

Guess you can only dream as much as you can reach in Africa."

"That's a pretty convincing explanation that the French policy of assimilation vs British protectionism allowed former west african colonies  to get into better paid and better run European football but how do you explain Nigeria and Ghana am curious. Btw I am Ugandan and I know the talent in East Africa is just as good if not better."

40.Eduardo_ da_silvar
"The main thing why African Football in general isn't doing well as a whole is that:

 1) there is a major lack of professionalism within the administrative structure of academies & "pro club" set ups & even the Football governing bodies within the continent & most African nations.

 2) there is an over emphasis on education by parents & teachers thus sports (& other creative activities) are looked at as "time wasting."

 3) blatant mismanagement &/or stealing of public funds allocated for development of sports & sporting facilities by govt officials

& 4) Blocking of young visionary individuals (whom have studies in various sporting fields) from coming in to make/usher the necessary changes to improve the continents sporting culture as a whole by the old, corrupt n outdated individuals in the "seats of power" who promote nepotism & tribalism in sports

PRAY, PUSH & ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE IN AFRICA EVERYONE...WE AS A PEOPLE FROM THE CONTINENT NEED ALL THE VOICES CALLING FOR THE OLD GUARD TO STEP DOWN & ACCEPT CHANGE.

"Could anybody explain to me why football ( soccer ) is not as well developed as rugby in South Africa ? As far as I know , South Africa does have decent football league and academies but still the national team just doesn't seem to be competiting with the likes of Nigeria , Cameroon , Egypt and Algeria in the continantel stage. Besides , football is also the most popular sports among South Africans, right ?"

**
Reply
58. coul j
"@L10🐐  We are not winning WC because producing great individual  talents is not enough.

1- The quality of football in local leagues have  to improve.

2-Economic life of Africans in each country has to improve in order to prevent kids from leaving home too early to go waste their talents in leagues like India, Thailand, Vietnam...

3-Corruption,  age manipulation have to reduced significantly.

4- Mentality, coaching has to change, detecting a talented young player is not enough, you need to nurture him, but  he will need to be taught skills he doesn't have like Ball control, passing accuracy , decision making under pressure, movement without the ball.... so that when he reaches age 18-19, he's a complete footballer.

To win a WC you need 22 very good players including 3 or 4 great talents. There is too much of a gap between our great talents and the rest of the respective teams."

"East Africa dominates Athletics(Marathons/Olympics) . South Africa dominates Cricket /Rugby.  Angola (basketball).

What do you mean by talent?

Don't mislead . We dominate different niches."

"West Africa also dominates athletics. Some of the the fastest runners in Africa and the world are from Nigeria. Jamaicans and blavk Americans are champions in fast running, and guess what? They are all of west african descend! Mainly Nigerian, which is a country that also dominated in that sport. Running fast is in the west african genes.

East Africa is the best at marathons (long distance running). So I wouldn't say East Africa is the only one that dominates in athletics."
