LYRICS: CORONA JAM (STUBBORNESS WILL BE THE DEATH OF YOU)
(Wiyaala and Family, Funsi, Ghana)

[All sing together]
They gave you a wife and you're still proving stubborn
Whatever they say, you're still being stubborn
They gave you a tree to plant, and you're still complaining
They gave you a man and you're still proving stubborn
Stubborness, stubborness, stubborness
Will be the death of you

They gave you a child and you're still proving stubborn
They gave you advice and you're still being stubborn
Whatever you do, you're still being stubborn
Hey, stubborness, stubborness, stubborness
Will be the death of you

They gave you a husband and you're still proving stubborn
They gave you advice and you're still being stubborn
Whatever you do, you're proving stubborn
Stubborness, stubborness, stubborness
Will be the death of you

[Wiyaala speaking] Let's sing one about Corona virus
But you know what, stay at home, wash your hands
when you are coughing, cough into your elbow,
or a handkerchief, rather
Yep! When you are sneezing, sneeze into the handkerchief
Stay home, please wash your hands with soap
Let's do one for Corona, right? Yeah!
[All sing together]
Stay at home, please because of Corona Virus
Don't go outside because of Corona Virus
Please don't go outside because of Corona Virus,
Hey Corona Virus
Rona, Corona Virus, It will be the death of you.

Please stay home because of Corona Virus
(repeated in Sissali and Waale)
Don't go to funerals or to the beachside

Hey, hey Corona Virus, Corona Virus
Corona Virus will be the death of you
Hey, hey Corona Virus, Corona Virus
Corona Virus will be the death of you
Hey, hey Corona Virus, Corona Virus
Corona Virus will be the death of you

Stay at home like us oh
Corona Virus
Please stay at home like us
Corona Virus

We are staying at home, keeping safe
Corona Virus
You must do the thing, do the thing
Corona Virus

Please, please, please stay home
Corona Virus
Wash your hands with soap everytime
Corona Virus
Say! Corona Virus, Corona Virus
Will be the death of you

Say! Hah! Corona Virus, Rona Virus, Corona Virus
Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona will be the death of you

Say! Hah! Corona Virus, Rona Virus, Corona Virus
Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona will be the death of you

Say! Hah! Corona Virus, Rona Virus, Corona Virus
Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona will be the death of you

Hey! One more time! Let's go! Say!
Corona Virus, Rona Virus, Corona Virus
Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona Rona will be the death of you

[Wiyaala speaks] Stay at home! Be safe! It's about to rain. Let's go outside.

This is myself and my humble family. We are staying home, keeping safe. We are not infected.
so we can sit together...Bye!!

My guess is that the Corona Virus words to this song were sung with the already existing Ghanaian song "Stubborness Will Be The Best Of You".

  1. It's interesting to compare songs about the coronavirus with songs from another culture both inside and outside of a particular country.

For instance, compare Wiyaala song "Corona Jam" (which actually begins with the line "Let's sing one about Corona Virus) with the African American Gospel quartet style song "Don't Let The Corona Get On Ya" by Deacon Wicknine.

That song and it's lyrics are found in this pancocojams post https://pancocojams.blogspot.com/2020/04/deacon-otis-wicknine-starlight-echoes.html.

And "Don't Let The Corona Get Ya" can be compared with other Corona Virus prevention songs from the United States.

    1. Here's a link to a pancocojams post that showcases an American Hip Hop style Corona Virus prevention song: https://pancocojams.blogspot.com/2020/04/corona-clap-by-dee-1-youtube-hip-hop.html "Corona Clap" by Dee-1 (YouTube Hip Hop video with lyrics & some explanations)

  2. One major difference between this Ghanaian song about the coronavirus and the songs from the United States that I've showcased thus far on pancocojams as well as other examples from the USA, is that the American examples don't mention death.
