Also, click https://pancocojams.blogspot.com/2021/12/discussion-thread-comments-about-covid.html for the closely related Dec. 18, 2021 pancocojams post entitled "
Discussion Thread Comments About Covid-19 From YouTube Vlogs About African Americans Visiting South Africa (December 2021)."
**** PANCOCOJAMS EDITOR'S NOTES I have been watching some of Mansa Mayne's vlogs since he visited South Africa on Dec. 7, 2021 and I've been reading some of the comments in those vlog's discussion threads. I read all of the comments that were posted in the discussion thread for this video/vlog (as of Dec. 16, 2021 at 11:40 PM EDT). Although I didn't include any of those comments in this compilation, I agree with the commenters who wrote that this particular vlog which Mansa shot with his iPhone has a much better quality than the previous ones that he shot with his camera. I also agree with the commenters who wrote that the content of this particular vlog (of his tour of Lion and Safari Park) is the best vlog that he published since he arrived in South Africa. One of the comments in this compilation refers to Mansa Mayne having the flu. Given the reports about the Omicron variant of Covid019 in South Africa, I want to note that Mansa Mayne published a vlog on Dec. 12, 2021 of him partying at a Johannesburgh area nighclub name "Tanzania":\. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zm3K0BoMZz4&ab_channel=CloutCassette . After that experience (which he shared in another discussion thread went from 10PM to 8AM the next day) Mansa was sick for two days. Some commenters wrote in his Tanzania vlog and in subsequent vlogs that Mansa was sick because he partied too hard on top of jet lag and not giving his body time to adjust before experiencing the Johannesburg scenes, including the night life.mes. Other people write that he probably just had a hangover, There were also commenters who wrote that Mansa Mayne had a flu, or had a cold, or had covid. I don't recall reading any comment that Mansa made himself other that he had been sick and he wouldn't go to Tanzania (nightclub) again. There are very few comments about Covid 19 or Covid-19 prevention in this Dec. 16, 2021 vlog's discussion thread (as of the time I published this pancocojams post.) Among those comments were two comments which mentioned that Mansa Mayne used the hand sanitizer stand before he got on the elevator (A few commenters in some other discussion threads for this South African visit had urged him to use that sanitizer stand that was in front of the elevator, but he hadn't done so in any other video that I watched. There were no comments (as of the publication of this pancocojams post) about how the people in this video wore face masks. However, I was concerned that Mansa rarely wore his face mask. He usually wore it on his chin, instead wearing it covering his nose and mouth. Mansa's South African friend Thato (who he had just met on this trip and who helped introduce him to Johannesburg along with No Chill and others) wore his face mask all the time but the mask wasn't over his nose. It appeared that Thato's sister-in-law was the only one who correctly wore a face mask to protect against Covid-19, although I think she took it off one time to take the "selfie" with the lion outside the vehicle she, Mansa, and Thato were in. The White South African tour guide "Alex" didn't wear a mask at all. With these noted, I'll step aside and let the comments in this compilation speak for themselves. ****

"@Henry Dube  yeah but they have moods dear remember they still in the natural habitated they in the wild not caged so meaning they can still attack at anytime like any wild animal no matter how long you have raised a lion it's a trust thing the can welcome you in the pride and see you as they own but they have moods also if they don't not want you around you can't force even if you are owner that's the principal they live by you jst do not welcome yourself uninvited that's how God made this beautiful creatures they command respect"

"Kaybee  I know that, being tamed/domesticated doesn't mean an animal can't go rogue. Humans, dogs, bulls and cats can go rogue EVEN when domesticated. These lions are tamed in a sense of them being raised by/with this specific human. That's what I'm saying, they didn't stumble upon him when they were fully grown and wild."

I will not decide to go explore the world simply because certain areas have gang related turmoil. "@Colby Mackells  huh? Chicago or Joburg? You probably thinking of M13s? Xenophobic attacks was one dangerous and stupid thing for all of us, and believe me, the sane people…we’re in majority! You can’t fear the US because of the many white supremacy gangs like the ones that came to the fore during Trump’s madness Americans called a presidency! Every place has its issues but for the most part, SA is a very cool place. Remember Joburg is a melting pot of most of not all nationalities from the continent and beyond, so the clashes for territory and jobs are bound to be there! They’re also most likely to follow identity and what distinguishes all the people would be nationality, color or skin, then tribe and so on! That’s stupid but it’s a fact. Johannesburg is the richest city in Africa so everyone here is here for the money, clashes would be there if one group feels sidelined. That doesn’t mean I agree but I’m only giving perspective and context!!!"

It could also be because we kinda treat their regular people like celebrities just because they are American. 🀷🏽‍♀️ But let's give ourselves a lil pat on the shoulder for shunning the myth that we're dangerous, thieves, xenophobic, etc. Our hospitality crashes all that negative talk so we must not stop being kind and humble. It will continue attracting tourists to our country, which is great. Maybe, just maybe in return, we'll receive that hospitality in their countries too."

Latest update: December 25, 2021

This pancocojams post showcases a Dec. 8, 2021 YouTube video of African American YouTube reaction music vlogger Mansa Mayne who is visiting South Africa.

This post also includes biographical information about Mansa Mayne. In addition, selected comments from that embedded video's discussion thread are presented in this pancocojams post.

The content of this post is presented for historical and sociocultural purposes.
I consider the visit of an African American vlogger who has a large South African following to South Africa during the omicron pandemic to have both historical significance and socio-cultural ramifications.

Thanks to Mansa Mayne for raising awareness about contemporary South African and other contemporary African music among people in the United States and other people throughout the world. Thanks also to all those who are quoted in this post.

Click the "Mansa Mayne in South Africa" tag and other tags for earlier pancocojams posts about those subject.

My apologies. I mistakenly gave Mansa Mayne's name as "Mansa Musa" in the title for this pancocojams post, but I corrected that mistake almost a day after publishing this post.

ICOMMENTS ABOUT THE FOCUS OF THIS PANCOCOJAMS POST
Mansa Mayne in a young African American who is the host of a YouTube vlog (video log) where he reacts to YouTube music videos. That vlog encourages reactions to that same video from its subscribers and others watching his vlog, and also encourages people to share which other songs he should react to next. Mansa Mayne is highly regarded by many South Africans in large part because his vlog mostly focuses on contemporary secular South African music, especially Amapiano music/dance. Many South Africans are also fans of Mansa Mayne because of his personality and his enthusiasm for the contemporary South African music scene.

I base these conclusions on South Africans' comments on his YouTube vlog, including the discussion thread for this embedded video. (That vlog also has a number of non- South African subscribers and non African subscribers, including African Americans like me.)  South Africans' high regard for Mansa Musa is probably  also demonstrated by their participation on Mansa Musa's instagram account. However, I don't have an IG account and have no direct knowledge of Mansa Musa's or anyone else's instagram account.

The focus of this pancocojams post is on the discussion thread for this embedded video/vlog much more than on the video itself. Mansa Mayne shot that video and -as the video shows & some commenters in that discussion thread testify- he isn't experienced in doing the type of vlogging that is based on camera shots.

I read all of the comments as of this date & time (Dec. 8, 2021, mostly ending around 10:30 PM EDT and a few comments from Dec. 8, 2021 that I read and added in the early morning of Dec. 9, 2021.) I recognize that a discussion thread compilation of selected comments that is made by anyone else would be different than any that I make. Almost all of the comments in this video's (vlog's) discussion thread are about Mansa Mayne's visit to South Africa.

There are some socio-political comments about South Africans' relationship with/opinions about Nigerians and other socio-political comments that I purposely didn't include in this compilation.  I also didn't include any examples of the multiple comments asking Mansa to visit other African countries since he is now in Africa. The only comments that I made sure to include in this pancocojams compilation were those that refer to Covid-19 itself, and/or Covid preventative measures such as wearing a mask, and/or the United States (or other nation's) travel ban/restrictions on people coming from South Africa because of the new Covid variant.

My guess is that Mansa Mayne chose the "Mansa" part of his name from the historical "Mansa Musa". The word "Mansa" was the title of the ruler of the Islamic West African empire of Mali (c. 1280 – c.1337). "Mansa" means "ruler" and/or "priest-king". The name "Musa" means the same thing as the name "Moses". Click https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mansa_Musa for more information about Mansa Musa.

NOTE ABOUT COVID-19 & TRAVEL BANS
Since this post is about travel to South Africa during this phase of the Covid-19 pandemic, I'm including this quote from the United States CDC that was included in this Dec. 8, 2021 article: https://news.yahoo.com/cdc-now-advises-against-travel-160857998.html

"Do not travel internationally until you are fully vaccinated," the CDC advises. "Fully vaccinated travelers are less likely to get and spread COVID-19. However, international travel poses additional risks, and even fully vaccinated travelers might be at increased risk for getting and possibly spreading some COVID-19 variants.

This week, the United States implemented a new policy requiring all international travelers, including U.S. citizens, to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within one day of their flight, regardless of their vaccination status.".

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION ABOUT MANSA MAYNE
Mansa Mayne is the screen name for an African American male cultural influencer via his instagram account and his YouTube channel.  Mansa's YouTube channel consist of him reacting to music videos which he shows on his screen and which he is seeing for the first time.

Mansa Mayne doesn't have a Wikipedia page and biographical information about him is difficult to find. However, I found the following biographical information about Mansa Mayne on
https://pitchfork.com/thepitch/reaction-videos-are-helping-uk-rappers-reach-a-us-audiencebut-could-marketing-money-spoil-that/ "Reaction Videos Are Helping UK Rappers Reach a U.S. Audience
Could marketing money spoil that?" by Will Pritchard, July 30, 2019
…."Louisville, Kentucky’s Tremayne Yocum, 25, spends his time outside of work filming reactions to UK rap videos under the moniker Mansa Mayne. Yocum originally launched his channel in April 2018 to document the growth of his dreadlocks. Within a few months, one of his UK-based subscribers, Dan Gill, sent him a message suggesting he respond to British rap. Per Gill’s recommendation, the YouTuber started surfing key UK rap channels like GRM Daily and Link Up TV, looking for tracks to include in reaction videos. As he embraced the format, his subscriber numbers grew from hundreds to thousands—and the most dedicated among them had plenty to say. “I’ll be honest with you,” Yocum says with a chuckle, “I had no type of knowledge of UK music. It was so bad because I was pronouncing people’s names wrong, and I would hear about it in the comments section.”

While Yocum maintains that his channel is mostly about entertaining people, he also acknowledges that his videos provide a platform for UK artists to reach a broader audience. “Somebody like me, I’d never heard of these artists before,” he says, referring to rappers like Fredo, Dave, and Stormzy, “but now I know other Americans who’ve heard of them because of me.”…
snip-
At some point, Mansa Mayne began to focus almost exclusively on YouTube videos of South African music, especially Amapiano music videos. As a result of that focus, Mansa Maynes' YouTube vlog has a lot of South African followers. Those subscribers even gave him the South African name "Tshepo" (a Sotho language name meaning "hope", "trustworthy", "reliable").

According to various commenters, sometimes in 2019 Mansa promised his vlog's subscribers (known as "Maniacs") that he would visit South Africa. And in spite of the new Covid-19 variant that South African researchers announced was in that nation and in spite of the United States' ban on travelers arriving from South Africa, Mansa arrived in that country on December 7, 2021.
-snip-
Click https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4THo2dsJPY&ab_channel=MansaMayne for a March 5, 2021 Mansa Mayne vlog titled "
Reacting to my @TrendingSA SABC 3. Interview!". "SABC 3".

Here's information about SABC 3 from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SABC_3
"SABC 3 (stylised as S3) is a South African free-to-air television network owned by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). It carries programming in English and, as of April 2009, Afrikaans"...
-end of quote-
That March  5, 2021  vlog shows the early 2019 virtual interview that Mansa Mayne on the South African television talk show "TrendingSA" . (Mansa was in the USA for that interview). Commenters on that video's discussion thread wrote that this talk series is very highly regarded and that show was seen by millions of people throughout the nation of South Africa.

That March 2021 vlog confirms all of the information that was given in that pitchfork.com article which is quoted above (including Mansa Mayne's "government name"), and it also adds more comments from Mansa Mayne about how his vlog became centered around South African music. The large number of comments in that discussion thread from South Africans exhorting him to visit that nation probably helped motivate Mansa Mayne to make that visit in December 2021, inspite of the Covid-19 pandemic and the travel warnings the United States Center for Disease Control (CDC) made about travel to South Africa and to various other nations around the world.

"Mansa is in South Africa and we are all excited πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦. We all just want to see you have a great time and experience south africa with all it has to offer and create great memories.

Here are a few pointers  for the guys who are hosting you:

1. Organize Mansa a videographer so he doesn't have to worry about vlogging and trying to be present

2. Prepared an itinerary for him ( Let Mansa experience South Africa in all of it's diversity.

3. Give Mansa time to rest as well- The time difference alone is already throwing him off.

4. Let's not overwhelm him with doing too much in a day, e.g podcasts and so forth and promoting brands he doesn't know. Let's give him time to slowly adjust to S.A

5. Let's give Mansa his Private Space at the apartment - his apartment should really be off limits. I felt really uncomfortable when everyone was at Mansa apartment chilling inside of exploring JHB.

Let's make Mansa feel at home!!

Mansa is shy you can clearly see in the videos. I'm sure there's certain things he didn't like but didn't say because he didn't want to be rude..

They should given you atleast 1 experience of what it's like to ride a taxi in S.A. Not to put you off bro, but please be safe with your phones and accessories.  They do snatch, could be anywhere. They run into a car and take off. Minimize holding your phone a lot in outdoor restaurants.  When requesting the Uber keep I your pockets. Roll windows up in the car when you in your phone. All this is good. We are all happy you are home. Hope you meet all the artists"

Ubuntu benu will go a long way for people that want to visit the motherland. You are dismantling all the  beliefs about Africa or SA .Look after Mansa ,taking this initiative to test the waters takes a lot of courage .Am sure he was discouraged but he followed his intuition to connect with the motherland.Let him enjoy and want to come back"
