This is Part III of at three part pancocojams series about ring shouts in the United States.
This post showcases YouTube videos of the traditional forms of ring shouts in the Unitrd States and YouTube videos of African American religious activities that developed from the ring shout.

These videos showcase traditional ring shouts, the Winnsboro Easter Rock, and the custom in some churches of the choir marching around the sanctuary. In the churches that follow this custom, that "march around" occurs during the portion of the church service that is dedicated to the collection/offering (i.e. receiving money from church members and other attendees of the church service).

CATEGORIZING THE SONGS THAT ARE SUNG DURING RING SHOUTS
A "ring shout" is a religious experience that is performed while some people sing (i. e "'shout") while they move counter-clockwise in shuffling motions around a ring (i.e. a circle).
The songs that they sing are a sub-set of Spirituals. These Spirituals usually start slow but change to a faster,derate, perfussive tempo.

RUN MARY RUN: Jubilee Curator and choreographer Rashida Bumbray's newest installment of her dance work, RUN MARY RUN : Jubilee, considers the harmonic ideas and tonal vocabulary of the McIntosh County Shouters. Creating an active ritual for the ceremony of the ring shout, Bumbray and the performers take us on a ride through the cosmologies of the Low Country, Geechie Sea Islands, Tennessee Blues, P Funk, and Hip Hop. This iteration of Run Mary Run is developed in collaboration with Dance Diaspora Collective and special guest master dancer, Adenike Sharpley, Professor, Oberlin College.
