ARTICLE EXCERPT ABOUT MOREHOUSE COLLEGE'S NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION SONG "I GOT A FEELING"
from https://blavity.com/morehouse-college-orientations-look-lit "Morehouse College Orientations Look Lit" by Tomas Kassahun, August 14, 2021
"Morehouse College recently held its orientation for the new academic year and once again solidified its welcome ceremony as one of the most distinguished events in the country. In a video posted to social media, hundreds of new Black students, elegantly dressed in their suits, can be seen walking through the halls while being welcomed by upperclassmen who were singing the school's famous anthem.
"I got a feeling somebody's trying to sneak in our House," the crowd sang in unison as the new students walked through the building.
Some of the men are seen smiling from ear-to-ear while others are nearly brought to tears. The upperclassmen, who were locked arm-in-arm while singing and welcoming their younger peers, formed a line that extends from inside the hallway to the outside of the building. While receiving greetings from their brothers, the new students proceed with a straight line and walk outside in the night.
The Atlanta HBCU describes its orientation program as "a week of exciting, enriching, stimulating and life-changing experiences designed to prepare new students for life."…

SHOWCASE VIDEO #2 - I’ve Got A Feeling
Marlon Thompson, Aug 14, 2021
The Morehouse College alums welcoming the new students into
their ranks.
[Lyrics]
I gotta feelin
I gotta feelin
I gotta feelin
that somebody’s tryin to sneak in my house
Morehouse!
[repeat]

Morehouse College's song "I Got A Feeling" has the same tune and tempo as the African American Spiritual "Wade In The Water".
Morehouse College upperclassmen sing that song while standing in two parallel line while new students silently walk in a single file past them. The words to "I Got A Feeling" allude to the belief that being a Morehouse man is special and some of these new students may not have what it takes to meet those qualifications and to honor, protect, and expand on the legacies of Morehouse.
Members of the historically Black Greek letter fraternity Omega Psi Phi, Incorporated also sing a version of "I Got A Feeling", excluding the name "Morehouse". Versions of "I Got A Feeling" are also sung by two historically Black Greek letter sororities "Zeta Phi Beta, Inc. and Sigma Gamma Rho, Inc. The song for each of those historically Black Greek letter organizations' "I Got A Feeling" song have the same tune and tempo and some very similar words as the Morehouse version of this song but have different performance formats (i.e. the song isn't sung while new students walk down the center of two parallel lines as is the Morehouse tradition.) I'm not sure which "I Got A Feeling" song was first and when it was first sung.
If you know any information about this song, please share that information in the comment section of this pancocojams post.

"This is a tradition at Morehouse that happens every fall for
new students. The upperclassmen have embellished parts of the tradition over
the years, but this tradition happens every year. You should see the "Parting
Ceremony" that typically occurs on Thursday when the parents leave and the
young men are in the hands of college."
