Thanks to J. Dash for his "WOP" record and thanks to Miley Cyrus for creating a video that featured that Hip Hop dance record. Thanks also to the publishers of that video on YouTube and thanks to all those who are quoted in this post.

MY THEORY ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF THE NAME "WOP" FOR THIS DANCE
Azizi Powell, 2023
I believe that the word "Wop" when it is used as a dance title or verb ("wopping") comes from the syllable "wop" in the African American music genre "doo-wop".
Unfortunately, the word "wop" is also a pejorative referent for Italians.
That may be the reason why the dance name "WOP" is often capitalized and/or the titles "Wap" or "Drop It To The Floor Then Wop" have been used for a small number of "WOP" video clips in Tik Tok challenge/dance trend compilations (since around 2022).
Stereofame, the publisher of the official 2011 YouTube "WOP" video by J.Dash featuring rapper Flo Rida, wrote in that video's discussion thread in 2012 that "WOP stands for With Out Prejudice. Check out J. Dash's Facebook page. FacebookDOTcom/TheRealJDash"
-end of quote-
I believe that "With Out Prejudice" is an example of a meaning for an abbreviation or word that is made up after the fact. Those types of word or abbreviation meanings are called "backronyms"
Here's some information about from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backronym
" A backronym is an acronym formed from an already existing word by expanding its letters into the words of a phrase. Backronyms may be invented with either serious or humorous intent, or they may be a type of false etymology or folk etymology. The word is a portmanteau of back and acronym.[1]
A normal acronym is a word derived from the initial letters of the words of a phrase,[2] such as radar from "radio detection and ranging".[3] By contrast, a backronym is "an acronym deliberately formed from a phrase whose initial letters spell out a particular word or words, either to create a memorable name or as a fanciful explanation of a word's origin."[1] Many fictional espionage organizations are backronyms, such as SPECTRE (special executive for counterintelligence, terrorism, revenge and extortion) from the James Bond franchise."...
-snip-
I think that J. Dash may have thought a backronym was particularly needed for the dance name "WOP" because of the pejorative meaning of the word "wop".
"Wop" was initially posted on J. Dash's YouTube channel in 2007; however, as the song began to go viral through user-posted videos of people performing its associated dance routine, he pulled the song and began work on a revised version to be released as a single,[3] followed by an official music video featuring fellow rapper Flo Rida in January 2011. The song would chart near the bottom of Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs...
The song would re-emerge to mainstream exposure on March 20, 2013, when Miley Cyrus posted a video on Facebook which featured her twerking to "Wop" while wearing a unicorn onesie. While Cyrus had previously shared her fondness for the song with J. Dash and suggested that they make a video together, these plans never came to fruition. J. Dash was initially unaware of the video's creation, but would learn of the video from his personal friends and Cyrus herself while he was sick in bed with a stomach virus. He
declared the video to be the moment that twerking became a mainstream phenomenon, and jokingly suggested that he and Cyrus should get matching unicorn tattoos.[1][5]
Miley Cyrus's "Wop" video would also go viral; by April 9, 2013, copies of the video had amassed over 4 million views on YouTube. In response to the influence of viral videos on the popularity of songs such as "Call Me Maybe" and "Gangnam Style", Billboard had added YouTube views as a factor to its Hot 100 chart in February 2013.[5][6] This resulted in "Wop" ascending the chart following the release of the Miley Cyrus video; it entered at #82, and rose to #52 the following week.[5] "Wop", along with "Don't Drop That Thun Thun"—a song popularized by another twerking video posted on Vine in July 2013, were cited as an example of how viral and user-created videos can bring renewed interest to songs."... **** EXCERPT #2 From https://abcnews.go.com/ABC_Univision/Entertainment/wop-miley-cyrus-demonstrates/story?id=18807937 "How to Do the Wop? Miley Cyrus Demonstrates How do you WOP? We'll show you." By ABC News, March 25, 2013 …."Like most things that take off online, the wop isn't a new move. (It's also not be confused with "wop," which is not a nice word at all.)* The move is currently experiencing a resurgence thanks to a video posted by Miley Cyrus featuring the pop singer dancing to J. Dash's song, "WOP," while dressed in a unicorn onesie. Like you do. And even though "WOP" was released back in 2010, the dance itself has been around since the '80s….
Although HyperVocal is quick to point out that, despite the fact that Miley's video has been titled "Twerking 'WOP' [Original]," she is NOT twerking. Her dance does include some elements of twerkitude, particularly around 0:38. It would be best described, then, as "some wopping, with touches of twerk." Twerking, for the woefully uninitiated, is a move that involves moving one's backside up and down rhythmically, with feeling and conviction…..
J. Dash's song provides some helpful instructions on how to perform his special, updated twist on the wop:
"Ladies take it back throw it back to the front /Bend yo' waist look to the front / Now BOUNCE yo body to the beat just a little bit harder (harder) /Shawty move yo feet just a little bit harder (harder)"
Sounds easy enough. The song makes the fairly simple dance even more interesting by adding some extra moves, like "drop, drop it to the floor," "wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle," and "make money," which consists of touching one's toes and shaking one's butt up and down as people shower your writhing body with dollar bills.
Of course, there's no use talking about a dance without the use of visual aids. Luckily, the internet has plenty. There's The Official White Girl WOP (extra points for coordinating outfits), "best white girl wop," "White Girls Do the Wop" (Notice a theme?), "The Wop dance," "WOP-BRIT N JACKIE," "How to Do the Wop Dance," "How to Do the Wop | Hip Hop Dance Moves" and many, many more.”… **** SELECTED COMMENTS FROM THE DISCUSSION THREAD FOR THIS EMBEDDED VIDEO

Many children looked up to you and adored you. Many will follow suit once they see your fall, but they might also change if they see you return to being a proper young lady."
