[Pancocojams Editor's Note:
As of September 29, 2022 at 11:23 AM ET, there are a total of 65 comments in this sub-thread.

Also, note that when people change their screen name on YouTube , the comments that address them retain their previous screen name.

It appears that some commenters in this discussion changed their screen names after that discussion began. For example, I think that
BEACON73 =Kevin Nseka, but I'm not sure which commenter had previously used the screen name King Yaka.

"Its only recently that Congolese music has been overtaken by other Genres.Truth be told the most popular music at the moment Naija Afrobeat is derived from coupe decale from cote de voire  which itself is derived from congolese music. am not from congo or Naija too."

"+chris maloney  please know your facts before u talk. Congolese music started to go international since the 90s look it up. Koffi olomide played already in big arenas in Belgien france which some of naija artist just played this year like wizkid or davido. Nobody heard naija or Ghana music back then those are just facts."

"+kossam musindire: you don't know none about music. Congolese music has been popular since 1958. Africa, Europe and all over. This is Congolese Rumba. south and latin America's Zumba is dirrieved from Rumba. learn the African history music before you start thinking that this american/european's new african influenced music is real music."

"King Yaka.. You couldn't have said it any better. A handful of us Nigerians don't really know our history especially with Music/Culture etc. I'm 38years old and grew up playing my dad's Vinyl(A lot of which I still own and play till today) more than 80% of his collection was Zaire/Congolese music.  collection that he had before I was even born."

Yes we all love our new Nigerian music taking over Africa but there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING original about it. That's why we cant listen to them more than 3/6 months rotation tops and we are unto the next song.

The current crop of music is ALL Ghanaian beats/sound but some Nigerians will still argue blindly. (From Runtown, Davido,Tekno etc)

I'm coming back here 4 years later and everything sounds to fresh. Clean signature Congolese guitar sound, the sound of the congas, the snare drum kills me every time, syncopation of the bass drum and bass guitar, Horns, various dimensions in different verses. (No copy and paste)..

Thanks for educating my Nigerian brother Jare!!! One love and peace to Africa."

"Emeka you're damn right. from grandpa, to father, to son, grandkids etc... amen 😂😂😂😂 Nigerian tracks are good but sounds fake sometimes. In Congo, once a song hits hard, it never dies...in fact if u understand what they say, most are recycled from previous artists (alive or deceased (RIP). Same goes to the instruments played in the background which kills me. They are still kicking at the end of the day.

"+j.curry from the little that i know about Congo square in New Orleans I agree with a lot you just said. Congo square was the only area in New Orleans where slave could play their traditional songs and dancers which was banned in america at the time so it became quite famous, New Orleans is the birth place of Jazz which is the foundation of all African american music

"BEACON73 Congolese rumba music like this song was very very popular in Africa, now the Nigerian music is more popular because it is more western and it is marketed to the youth with all of the club bangers"

"Gina Amadin I beg to differ. I love Nigerian music, and I would listen to it in the club, but nothing compares to Congolese music. The reason they don't play it in clubs is cause it has soul, not to be played in such places as clubs. I play Naija tunes everyday, but I never go to sleep without the good old Congo music. NB I am Zimbabwean #ONELOVE"

"@BLUE SEE  oh my God which world are you living you,🤔😂😂😂🤦 actually to the contrary i have seen people cross cultural and worldwide dancing to congolese music. Infact when you talk to a few why they like it they say "it's classic generational music with original sounds". The truth is congolese music is music for people with class and a taste of quality  while nigerian music is nothing but commercial music mean to be played for 3-4 months maximum. It's like comparing R.Kelly/Micheal Jackson(congolese music) to Chris Brown(nigerian)"

"@tony carter  It is extremely funny how our nigerian brothers even consider themselves as musicians. The majority of their stars cannot even sing and play musical instruments properly. It is pretty obvious they are spending money to influence people to validate their poor music by buying BET and Grammy awards. Lol.

In short, South Africans and Tanzanians are musically better than Nigerians.

That's being said, no country on earth can compete against DR.Congo musically except maybe USA.

James Brown, Stevie Wonders, Tabu Ley, Papa Wemba, Michael Jackson, R Kelly, Koffi Olomide, Franco Luambo, Lokwa Kanza,..."
