PANCOCOJAMS EDITOR'S NOTES
I'm quoting comments from The Fire LA's (TFLA) reaction video for Diamond Platnumz featuring Koffi Olomide's song "Waah" because that reaction video has the most comments about those singers than I've found in any other YouTube discussion threads about the song "Waah!".
That Fire LA (Big Ralph) is an African American music vlogger. It appears to me that most of the videos that are showcased on his vlog (video blog) are from the African nations of South Africa, Tanzania, and Nigeria in that order.
Mansa Mayne is another African American man who hosts reaction videos about African music. Most of the music videos that Mansa Mayne showcases are from the nation of South Africa. Click https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnBAt_IjALk&ab_channel=MansaMayne for a link to his reaction video on the song "Waah!" That reaction video was published on Dec. 2, 2021.
My guess is that there are far fewer informational comments about the featured artists and explanatory (including lyrics/English translation) comments in the discussion theads of official YouTube music videos because many Africans know who these artists are and may take for granted that other people know who these artists are. Futhermore, I believe that there are far fewere explantory comments - include lyric transcriptions of songs in their original language as well as English translations - because commenters either understand the words in those showcased songs or are used to hearing and appreciating songs in languages that they don't understand.
Most people in the United States are far less cosmopolitan than most Africans. However, thanks to YouTube, we are becoming introduced to music from Africa and elsewhere.
The two reaction vloggers that I referred to - That Fire LA and Mansa Mayne-have so many African subscribers share their knowledge on those vlogs' discussion threads because both of those vloggers have demonstrated sincere and enthusiastic interest in African music. This interest and enthusiasm for that music is demonstrated by not only by the fact that they showcase this music, but also by their physical reactions to that music and their requests to their subscribers for information about that music (artists, genre, words, and dances).
Here's a general statement about this from That Fire LA's discussion thread that I'm highlighting in this post:
M P, Dec. 2020
"Africa got it all. There is more for you to discover. Proud to be African 🙏🏿 . God Bless us all. Peace ☮️ ✌🏿. The culture is massive and most people are discovering it now because of social media. We have be blazing with this and all kind of music for years but the west were interested in showing us with flies and all the bad images. Now we are able to tell our own stories with ease."
-end of quote-
Thank you, That Fire LA and Mansa Manye for providing the forum for this cultural sharing and thanks to all those who share cultural information online!

"James Brown" of African Music.. Every African knows him and to
collaborate with him a big deal. Proud Tanzanian here.
Also, the ending translation where they

Translates "due to Corona, we don't greet each other with hands but
feet and don't forget to wear a mask and wash your hands."

discover i.e Rhumba & Lingala.

should say African ndombolo/rumba artist going back decades. If you are African
and aged 30 and below, there is a chance you were conceived while koffi playing
in the background. Koffi is huge in the continent!"
**

26. Ngombella S
"Koffi Olomide is the biggest singer from
Congo. Multiple hits and awards under his belt. He basically put Congo on the
continental map”.
He’s from the french speaking Africa
that’s why u probably never heard of him. Got some of the best ballads and a
few congolese stars were members of his group from the 90s “Quatier Latin.
You can check his most known titles
“Loi”, “wake up” “ultimatum” “si si” “Effrakata” “selfie” etc. He’s a genius.
He was criticized in the past for only
having light skin female dancers but he has evolved on this."
**
27. MissFlo
"KOFFI OLOMIDE 64 yr old Soukous Music
Legend from Democratic Republic of Congo DRC AKA Zaire AKA Congo. He Holds a
Bachelors degree in Economics and a Masters' Degree in Mathematics, that
explains why is regarded as one of the highly self managed musicians and has
succeeded in music. Very organized."
**
28. Partrendah Muchafa
"Growing up even now there's no party or wedding if they
don't play a Koffi Olomide song..... dude is an African legend"

"You pronounce his name like COFFEE you

**
30. Francisca Sivume Mpike
"It is pronounced OLO-ME-DAY"
**
31. Devine Godess
"Name is Kofi not “coffee “ and last name is pronounced
Olo-mee-dé. He’ s the king of Congolese rhumba...in fact this song is 100% in
his style rather than Diamond’s."
**
32. Ola Sumbo
"He is a living legend of African music
from Congo DRC. He is the king of Afro Dance music videos from the early 98, 99
and 2000''s. He sold out shows all over
africa and europe. He sings in his
native congolese dialect and french.
Guess what -- Most Africans just
sing along when growing up even though we don't understand meaning of the
lyrics.. lol.. I'm Nigerian but congolese dance
all/along music (called Soukous
)ruled African party scene and shows back then just like how the Nigerian
artist are running the party scene now.
Another popular artist is Awilo Longomba. Both of them are legends. We
respect and love these legends all over
the continent."
**
33. Leticia
"This music genre it's a typical
Congolese seben music (a lot of it, you can also hear in Congolese gospel
music). The rhythm is upbeat, but not as fast as the music styles ndombolo or
soukous. Seben music is between Congolese music rumba(slow tempo) and soukous,
ndombolo (fast tempo). What you hear here is a trademark from the artist Koffi
Olomide, known as the thatcho style which
he invented back in the days (90's)."

"Koffi is a legend. A godfather when it comes to Congolese
music and popular African music as we know it today. He is known to be very
flamboyant and eclectic in his style. You can see Koffi’s influence on music as
it is reflected in Diamond’s fashion and dancing as well. Koffi loves ambiance
and is generally a “bon vivant”.
