Ten Examples Of Haitian Kanaval (Carnival) 2014 Songs

Edited by Azizi Powell

This post presents ten videos of songs from the Haitian carnival that was held on March 2, 3, and 4th, 2014. These videos are just a small sample of the numerous Haitian kanaval 2014 songs that were posted on YouTube.

I selected these examples from the Haitian carnival 2014 that I watched* because they met my aesthetic taste for sound, beat, and video content. Unfortunately, I don't speak or read Haitian Creole, the language I think was used for these songs, their titles, the publisher's summaries and most of their viewers' comments. Consequently, I don't know what is being sung. I hope that it's something good. :o)

* I viewed & listened to about 25 videos, but this website that I found listed 65 Haitian carnival 2014 songs: http://haitianmyspace.com/index.php?view=display&id=219&option=com_music. That website also listed the number of times that the songs were downloaded. I didn't do a thorough check to verify that all of the songs featured in this pancocojams post are included in that list, but I assume that they are.

http://www.haitiopen.com/haiti-news/haiti-carnival-2014/ indicates that "Music is one of the most important ingredients of the Haiti Kanaval. Musicians generally engage in a wide range of genres, including Haitian rap, zouk, Compas music, and mizik rasin." [snip] I'm not sure about what the music genres are for the examples that are featured in this post. I would appreciate learning any information about these songs and their performers.
