That may have been a coincidence as it seems unlikely that the composer/s of that foot stomping cheer would have been familiar with that Jazz song.

"Nathaniel Adams Coles (March 17, 1919 – February 15, 1965),[1] known professionally as Nat King Cole, was an American singer, jazz pianist, and actor. Cole's career as a jazz and pop vocalist started in the late 1930s and spanned almost three decades where he found success and recorded over 100 songs that became hits on the pop charts.

Cole began his career as a jazz pianist in the late 1930s, when he formed the King Cole Trio, which became the top-selling group (and the only black act) on Capitol Records in the 1940s. Cole's trio was the model for small jazz ensembles that followed. Starting in 1950, he transitioned to become a solo singer billed as Nat King Cole. Despite achieving mainstream success, Cole faced intense racial discrimination during his career. While not a major vocal public figure in the civil rights movement, Cole was a member of his local NAACP branch and participated in the 1963 March on Washington. He regularly performed for civil rights organizations. From 1956 to 1957, Cole hosted the NBC variety series The Nat King Cole Show, which became the first nationally broadcast television show hosted by a Black American.

Some of Cole's most notable singles include "Unforgettable", "Smile", "A Blossom Fell", "Nature Boy", "When I Fall in Love", "Let There Be Love", "Mona Lisa", "Autumn Leaves", "Stardust", "Straighten Up and Fly Right", "The Very Thought of You", "For Sentimental Reasons", "Embraceable You" and "Almost Like Being in Love". His 1960 Christmas album The Magic of Christmas (also known as The Christmas Song), was the best-selling Christmas album released in the 1960s; and was ranked as one of the 40 essential Christmas albums (2019) by Rolling Stone.[2] In 2022, Cole's recording of "The Christmas Song", broke the record for the longest journey to the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, when it peaked at number nine, 62 years after it debuted on the chart; and was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry.[3][4]

Cole received numerous accolades including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (1960) and a Special Achievement Golden Globe Award.[5] Posthumously, Cole has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (1990), along with the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award (1992) and has been inducted into the DownBeat Jazz Hall of Fame (1997), Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2000), and the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame (2020). NPR named him one of the 50 Great Voices. Cole was the father of singer Natalie Cole (1950–2015), who covered her father's songs in the 1991 album Unforgettable... with Love"

"“The Creator Has a Master Plan” is an epic piece of spiritual jazz released in 1969. It features both Pharoah Sanders' avant-garde saxophone techniques and Leon Thomas' extended vocal yodeling.

Though this track is only built around two chords (Ab9 and Bb9), it both complex and tightly structured. The length and distinct sections make it more like a symphony or a sonata rather than a “song.”

Though the intensity of the piece ebbs and flows over time, the piece generally gets increasingly chaotic as it progresses, right up until the end.

"Building on the momentum of consumer boycotts against Target and other companies earlier this year, grassroots organizers want American consumers to use their economic power this Thanksgiving weekend to protest the Trump administration’s anti-immigration and anti-DEI crackdowns – and the big corporations that won’t oppose them.

The We Ain’t Buying It campaign – organized by many of the groups behind the No Kings protests – is asking Americans to stop shopping at Target, Home Depot and Amazon on Black Friday, one of the busiest retail days of the year, while also encouraging people to shop local and support community businesses.

“We are reclaiming our power. We are redirecting our spending. And we are resisting this rise to authoritarianism,” said LaTosha Brown, co-founder of Black Voters Matter, one of the groups spearheading this action.

Organizers see We Ain’t Buying It as an economic pressure campaign that fits into the broader civil resistance against the president’s agenda. It joins other economic protests launched during the Trump era, including an ongoing boycott against Target for rolling back its DEI policies and an uptick in people cancelling their Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions after ABC’s suspension of late-show host Jimmy Kimmel.

Consumer activism, including boycotts, can bring meaningful attention to causes, experts said. But whether something like We Ain’t Buying It can prod governments or institutions to change positions depends on what organizers seek to achieve – and how sustained and visible the public pressure.

“They’re effective not so much because they actually reduce sales that much,” said Nien-hê Hsieh, professor of business administration at Harvard Business School. “But it’s really about calling attention and putting the company in the spotlight.”

Organizers plan to keep adding pressure. In addition to Black Voters Matter, groups such as Indivisible, 50501, Until Freedom and the Working Families party have not only helped organize the boycott, but have also been behind the larger civic movements against the second Trump administration. Brown said since the We Ain’t Buying It launch earlier this month, more than 80 other groups have signed on to participate, including labor unions.

“We’re hoping that the millions of people that participate in this will have a higher level of consciousness of that we have choice, that our money gives us choice,” Brown said. “That means that we have power and that we can make choices to demand better.”

The weekend boycott begins on Thanksgiving, when the motto is “Don’t spend a dime, spend time with your family,” Brown said. Organizers encourage people not to shop at all on Black Friday, unless it’s at small or local businesses. Shopping locally is also the goal for Saturday. Sunday is focused on mutual aid, and Cyber Monday will be a “cyber shutdown”, Brown said, meaning no online shopping.

“We have people who are deleting their apps,” Brown said. “We’re going to cancel subscriptions. We’re not buying anything.”...

I Want A Piece Of Pie') when an item in a verse is found to be defective and is substituted for another item. However, that substituted item is also found to be defective and is also traded for another item. This pattern continues throughout the song or rhyme

It  appears to me that "ABC It's Easy As 1,2,3" (or "ABC, It's Easy As Do Re Me" appears to be a rather large sub-set of children's rhymes that include the "Ooh Ah! I Want A Piece Of Pie" trading rhymes.
The beginning line "ABC, it's easy as 1, 2, 3" is the only line in those "Ooh Ah! I Want A Piece Of Pie" that is from the Jackson 5's song. Another version of this line is "ABC, it's easy as "do re mi". Either version of that line is followed by another rhyming line such as "My daddy watches MTV." or "My mommy takes care of me." before those rhymes move to the "Ooh Ah! I want a piece of pie" trading rhymes.

These "ABC It's Easy As 1,2,3" (or "ABC It's Easy As Do, Re, Me")  rhymes use the same tune as the other rhymes in the "Ooh Ah! I Want A Piece Of Pie" family of children rhymes. "John Richard Handy III (born February 3, 1933)[1] is an American jazz musician most commonly associated with the alto saxophone. He also sings and plays the tenor and baritone saxophone, saxello, clarinet, and oboe.[2]

Biography

Handy was born in Dallas, Texas, United States.[1] He first came to prominence while working for Charles Mingus in the 1950s.[1] In the 1960s, Handy led several groups, among them a quintet with Michael White, violin, Jerry Hahn, guitar, Don Thompson, bass, and Terry Clarke, drums.[1] This group's performance at the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival was recorded and released as an album;[1] Handy received Grammy nominations for "Spanish Lady" (jazz performance) and "If Only We Knew" (jazz composition). [3]

After completing high school at McClymonds High School in Oakland, he studied music at San Francisco State College, interrupted by service during the Korean War, graduating in 1958. Following graduation, he moved to New York City. Handy has taught music history and performance at San Francisco State University, Stanford University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.[4]

That's SO surprising to me since there's no question that the cadence was inspired by this John Handy Jazz record. Both have the same title; the Jazz record and the military cadence have the same tune, and John Handy chants the words "hard work" in his Jazz record. (For those who don't know the military cadence, there are several examples on YouTube). Plus I just published a post on my pancocojams cultural blog that showcases five examples of that cadence with some lyrics. After showcasing those examples I wondered about the source of that cadence. That led me to this YouTube sound file. I'm an African American woman who should have remembered this from the 1970s, but I don't have any memory of it (?!).

I'd love to know what year you remember this cadence being called and what branch of the service you were in. Thank you for your service, and thanks for confirming my sense that this John Handy record was the inspiration for the "Hard Work" military cadence.
