Most Hispanic American countries have made their own regional version of Cumbia, some of them with their own particularity.

Examples of cumbia include: Colombian cumbia is a musical rhythm and traditional folk dance from Colombia.[6] It has elements of three different cultures, American Indigenous, African, and Spanish, being the result of the long and intense meeting of these cultures during the Conquest and the Colony.[7] The Colombian cumbia is the origin of all the other variations,[8] including the tradition of dancing it with candles in the dancers' hands.”…

"We're gonna have a funky good time!" -snip- Toward the end of Nooney and the Zydeco Floaters's "Kush Kush" song, you can hear the words "We're gonna have a funky good time"/ "I gotta take you higher". Those words are from James Brown's 1980 song "Funky Good Time". The tune that is used for that part of "Kush Kush" is very similar or the same as that James Brown R&B song. 1. Here's some information about the Zydeco band Nooney & The Zydeco Floaters that released the song "Kush Kush" in 2001
    from https://www.discogs.com/release/20816959-Nooney-The-Zydeco-Floaters-Thats-Who-We-Be
    by JimHance813, Feb 28, 2024
"The band was a fixture in the Houston zydeco scene, and had four CDs include The Dream, We Bringing The Heat, That’s Who We Be, and Bounce Back. In 2017, Nooney had an EP on iTunes titled Love on the Run. The music is modeled after Zydeco Force which Nooney believed had a more traditional approach to zydeco music without the R&B, pop and hip-hop stylings other bands have adopted."

    1. I haven't found any information online about the members of the Zydeco band "Nooney & The Zydeco Floaters". Has there been any response from those members about why this song hasn't been re-released by them given the numerous requests from commenters for that re-release? Is this because they don't own the copyright for that song? That would be very sad given how popular this song still appears to be.

    2. I haven't found any lyrics online for Nooney & The Zydeco Floaters' song "Kush Kush" and it appears from the comments that I've read in several discussion threads for YouTube videos of this song that no one else online has come across those lyrics .

Here's an AI Overview about the words "Kush Kush":
"AI Overview [retrieved from my online request for information about those words on August 29, 2025]

"In the context of a zydeco song, kush kush refers to couche-couche, a traditional Cajun and Creole breakfast dish. The phrase is an African-influenced Creole term for a cornmeal porridge that is often compared to a fried, crumbled corn muffin.

      About couche-couche
Pronunciation: The dish's name is pronounced "koosh-koosh," which is what is heard in zydeco music.

Ingredients: It is typically made from cornmeal fried in a pot until it becomes crispy and crumbled.

Preparation: Once prepared, it is served like a hot cereal with toppings such as milk, cane syrup, sugar, or coffee.

Cultural roots: The name has West African origins, stemming from the Senegambian word kush, which referred to boiled or steamed millet grains. Enslaved Africans in Louisiana adapted the dish using cornmeal, a native grain.

      The phrase in music
In zydeco, a genre that emerged from the musical traditions of Black Creoles in rural Southwest Louisiana, references to couche-couche reflect the cultural touchstones of daily life and history. The mention of this beloved dish is a way of invoking a sense of home, tradition, and Creole identity."
      -snip-
Another AI Overview result from my second question on this subject on August 29, 2025 indicates that "Kush Kush in Zydeco doesn't have anything to do with the Kush strain of marijuana."

Since I can't understand most of the words to Nooney & The Zydeco Floaters' song, I don't know whether either of these things are true. It's possible that "Kush Kush" in that song refers to the Cajun/Creole breakfast dish and also refers to marijuana.

Also, "Cush" (or "Kush" is a the Hebrew word that referred to any land south of northern Egypt, which could include present-day Ethiopia or Sudan. It's unlikely that that is the meaning for the word "Kush Kush" in this Zydeco record, but I guess it's possible that could be one of its meanings.

If anyone knows the lyrics for the Zydeco song "Kush Kush" and knows what "Kush Kush" means in that song, you'd be doing a tremendous service to Zydeco lovers if you posted that information here or elsewhere online.

Here's hoping that someone will respond to this request .
