The girls love this one! Usually they mess up somewhere in the alphabet and then they have to chose a "new name" with that letter.* "Avocado, avocado is the name of the game. If you mess up quick I'm going to change your name". [Recite alphabet.] -snip- *In Video #5 embedded below, a boy chooses an insulting name that doesn't begin with the letter of the alphabet that his partner missed. I wonder if this was the way that this game was originally played. ****

WORDS TO THIS HAND CLAP GAME
[Begin the hand clap motions while saying:

Avocado, avocado is the name of the game
If you mess up, I get to change your name.

[Recite the alphabet fast and if you mess up, your partner gives you a name that begins with that letter. If your partner messes up, you get to give her a name that begins with that letter.

My ten year old granddaughter Jaiya Hughes, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania shared with me that she and her friends play "Avocado" and some other hand clap games* during recess at her school. If someone messes up, their partner changes their name and she has to use that new name for the rest of that school day.

[One boy does the wrong hand motion and this exchange occurs]:
boy #1- Oh, I messed up.
boy #2- I get to... I get to change your name.
boy #1-What's my name?
boy #2- "Fart" "Fartsies"
boy #1.- [boy bow his head down] 
Man (their father?) -So now, your name is "Fart"?
boy #2-No, "Fartsies"
Man- "Fartsie". How does this work? Is this forever?
boy #2-No.No you..If he wins he get his name back.
