This is Part II of a three part pancocojams series on the African American custom of chanting an introductory word, phrase, or rhyming or non-rhyming lines before the actual beginning of certain hand clap rhymes.

This post showcases seven YouTube videos of hand clap rhymes that include an introductory word, phrase, or lines before the actual beginning of those rhymes.

These YouTube videos are showcased without any transcriptions (words). I limited these  examples to videos that only featured one hand clap rhyme.

This is a video of the hand clap rhyme that is known as "Twee lee lee" ("Rockin Robin").

This video that shows two White women and two White men playing this hand clap rhyme documents how the way this rhyme is performed and the colloquial name for this rhyme has extended beyond the African American population where this rhyme and those features originated.

Notice how the chanters hold the pinky fingers of the people standing on both of their sides and rhythmically swing their arms back and forth while chanting "Swing swing swing by the river to the sea".

  1. Here's a link to another video of "Tweeleelee" ("Rockin Robin") which uses the word "twee lee lee" as an introductory feature and that shows how the chanters patting each other's palms for that introduction:
