By "soul line dance videos" I mean YouTube videos of soul line dance records that have "call outs" (dance instructions) throughout the entire song or through most of the song. Other records in any music genre can be used for line dancing, but technically those aren't line dance records.
An article excerpt in this post's comment section provides a quote from line dance creator Big Mucci that differentiates line dance "call outs" records from other records that people can use for line dancing.

This pancocojams post of seven soul line dances with the highest YouTube views as of this post's publication date doesn't include the Electric Slide line dance in part because I limited this list to line dance records that have call out dance instructions, and "The Marcia Griffiths' "The Electric Boogie" doesn't
ReplyDeletemeet that criteria.
In addition, although I didn't spell this out) this post showcases line dances whose recording artists and choreographers are African American, and "The Electric Boogie" (which is most widely known as "The Electric Slide" doesn't meet that criteria. Jamaican singer/songwriter Bunny Wailer wrote that song and Jamaica singer Marcia Griffiths recorded it. Furthermore, the song's line dance choreography is credited to Ric Silvers, a White American choreographer (although the steps that are usually done for that dance (as shown online and in my personal experience) are less than the 22 steps that Ric Silver copyrighted.

Btw, in England and sometimes in the United States and elsewhere, the Electric Slide is called "The Candy Dance" because it is danced there (and sometimes also in the USA and elsewhere to Cameo's record "Candy". Also, the "Electric Slide" is rarely if ever called "The Electric Boogie".
For the record, no pun intended, on December 19, 2023 at 11:26 PM, the total # of YouTube views for The Electric Boogie video with the most views- Marcia Griffiths- Electric Boogie (The Electric Slide), published by Marcia Griffiths, Oct 4, 2012 has 8,325,012 views as of December 19, 2023 at 11:43 PM DST. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jBkoEM0SSE.
Another video of that song, Marcia Griffiths - Electric Boogie (The Electric Slide) (Official Video), published by Marcia Griffiths, April 8, 2018 has only 430,393 as of December 19, 2023 at 11:46 PM.
Regarding the term "call outs" as it pertains to line dances, here's an excerpt of an article about Big Mucci (birth name Mark Wynn), the creator of multiple line dances:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2019/07/20-years-after-the-cleveland-shuffle-big-mucci-is-still-dancing.html
"If you’re from Cleveland, you might recognize “The Cleveland Shuffle” by 71 North. The iconic line-dance song, first released in 1998, then re-released in 2002 with dance call-outs, is a sensation that’s been embraced at Northeast Ohio weddings and birthday celebrations ever since.

"Wynn calls himself the “godson” of line-dancing, falling in with DJ Cupid, Casper and DJ Maestro, ushering in an era of line-dancing in the ’90s that was inspired by disco music.
“When you say line dance, the first thing people think of is country,” Wynn said. “But country line-dancing came after the disco era.”
In the mid-1970s, “L.A. Hustle” took over disco clubs on the West Coast, and was modified into “The Bus Stop” when it earned popularity on the East Coast in the late ‘70s. According to Wynn, “The Cleveland Shuffle,” released in 1998, was the next urban line-dancing song to have call-outs.
Of course, other popular records came out in between, notably “The Electric Slide.” But because the original version of “The Electric Slide” was based on Bunny Wailers’ “Electric Boogie,” which did not have call-outs in the song, Wynn doesn’t count it as an original line dance single.
That’s an important distinction, Wynn said.
“A lot of people call me the godson of line-dancing, because I make actual music for line dancing. You have people that have the regular music that put a line dance to it, but then you have people like me who make line dances and the music,” Wynn said. “You can’t do any other type of dance.”...
