Thanks to Red Rat (Wallace Wilson) for his musical legacy. Thanks also to all those who are quoted in this post and thanks to the publishers of these videos on YouTube.

I was motivated to publish this post because I heard that song on Pandora music radio and I thought the repeated lyric "Oh No! This is serious" fits this coronavirus pandemic so well.

SHOWCASE VIDEO: Red Rat - Story Of How I Got My Name (247HH Exclusive)
RedRatMusic, Jul 27, 2015
Music Bed Produced By: Tha Hydrox
Introduction produced By: Mike Jaxx and Tha Hydrox
-snip-
Here's a paraphrased synopsis of that video:
"Red Rat" said that someone he knew gave him that name because when he was younger he was thin and looked like a rat and the "red" is what his skin color is called in Jamaica. Red Rat also said that in Jamaica people aren't called by their "government names", but are given nicknames. If you don't like the nickname you are given, they might give you one that is worse. So Red Rat said he just "ran with it" (went along with that nickname.)

**
REPLY
61. Azizi Powell, 2020
"@Monal Phantom, I also wondered how he got that stage name. I guessed it was partly because he is light skin since "red" is one term that is used to refer to Black people with light skin in Jamaica ("Yellow" is another term as in the stage name for dancehall dj Yellow Man, who has albinism.)
I searched online & found this quote about Red Rat's stage name: https://welcometojamrockreggaecruise.com/red-rat/
"“Yo... You [skin] red and you look like a rat!” In 1996 Wallace Wilson was about to emerge on the International stage as one of Jamaica’s most versatile, innovative and exciting performers, when he heeded then label mate General Degree’s point-blank observation and the name Red Rat was born."...

This is how that quote was given on that jamrock page.
