PANCOCOJAMS EDITOR'S NOTE
This post is part of an ongoing pancocojams series on House music. Click the House music tag for other pancocojams posts on this music genre.

I wasn't acquainted with House music until very recently - or more accurately, I didn't know that certain music that I knew and liked were examples of House music. I'm learning about House music as I listen online to the music that I showcase on this blog and other records and as I read their YouTube discussion threads.

The posts in this series aren't given in any chronological order. The posts and their order of publication in this blog simply reflect what subjects and/or what records and/or which types of House music I chose to experience, learn about, and share in this blog at that time.

"OMGGG!!! That was one of the BEST performances live, ever in House Music history, nationally! Of course, in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America, is the birthplace of House Music, takes the cake for BEST performances with DJs such as Jesse Saunders, Frankie Knuckles, Steve Miggedy Maestro, Mike Dunn and so many original Chicago House music Dj's and artists, but to see the music go nationally is just awesome! And of course, House Music is based on African drums and syncopated rhythms, which makes it even better. Bucie has such a strong and beautiful voice...very smooth and powerful and Black Coffee's jammin' rhythms and House Music rhythms makes this an excellent performance! How I wished I was in South Africa on this day! =) #LOVEBlackCoffee #LiterallyAndFiguratively #Superman #Bucie...AMAZINGVOICE #Elegant

"I agree it is one of the best live performance, however afro house is not inspired by Chicago House, you would have to know the history of African music too to make such statements. This isn't Chicago House going national. In fact this is just a modern African sound with elements of house. Its really good you enjoy Afro House but I think its a little offensive to regard it as birthing from Chicago.

"+Nyala Palmer house music is from Chicago period"

7. Nyala Palmer, 2017
"Denise Mitchell black coffee uses a lot of call and response with the vocals and drums. That is an ancient African tradition. Before even cassettes and cd’s. A tradition before we were born, before our parents were born. So to say this music comes from Chicago is ignorant. It is a fusion of genres. That’s my point. It is not Chicago house music going global. It is global music mixed with Chicago house."

"Yes. The Beginnings of House Music. It started in Chicago's Southside in 1977, when a new kind of club opened. This new Chicago club called The Warehouse gave House music its name ( It existed before they named it. It was inspired in African rhythms), Frankie Knuckles, who opened The Warehouse, mixed old disco classics and new Eurobeat pop.
Then the South Africans named our music Afro House, and it´s a sub-genre of House music, with its roots predominantly in South Africa. A fusion of Kwaito, Tribal, Deep and Soulful House music, in South Africa it is classed as Deep House or Soulful House, although it has its own unique sound."

"I feel so sheltered having grown-up with, or listening to the back and forth "war/rhetoric" over which came first , CHICAGOs or NYCs, house/club music from the WAREHOUSE. in Chicago, or the CLUBHOUSE in DC, or AEROPORT in Ankara, Turkey, or NYCs Paradise Garage since the late 70s to now . . . what this artist, song, video has opened my eyes, too, is that music is universal . . . I must get out more often . ."
