Edited by Azizi Powell

Latest Update: January 11, 2022

This is Part II of a two part series that focuses on plagiarism in Melania Trump's Republican National Convention Speech (July 18, 2016) and its comparison to the the 2000 Bring It On cheerleader movie. The plot of that fictional movie revolved around the revelation that the captain of a White suburban high school cheerleading squad (the Toros) had been stealing cheers and routines from an East Compton majority Black cheerleading squad (the Clovers).

Part II provides more information about the 2000 Bring It On movie and showcases a video clip of the relevant scene from the 2000 Bring It On movie. This post also includes the words of the cheer that was chanted in that scene as well as selected comments from that video's discussion thread. That post will be published ASAP and its link will be added to this post.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE 2000 "BRING IT ON" MOVIE
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bring_It_On_(film)
Bring It On is a 2000 American teen comedy film that was directed by Peyton Reed and written by Jessica Bendinger. The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku, Jesse Bradford, and Gabrielle Union. It was the first of the Bring It On film series and was followed by four direct-to-video sequels, none of which contain any of the original cast members: Bring It On Again (2004), which shared producers with the original, Bring It On: All or Nothing (2006), Bring It On: In It to Win It (2007), and Bring It On: Fight to the Finish (2009). The plot of the film centers around the competition of two cheerleading teams....

[Missy, a new member of the Toros cheerleading squad] drives Torrance [ the Toros new squad captain] to Los Angeles, where they watch the East Compton Clovers perform routines that are virtually identical to their own team's. Isis (Gabrielle Union), the Clovers' team captain, angrily confronts the two. Torrance learns that "Big Red" [the former captain of the Toros] regularly attended the Clovers' practices to videotape and steal their routines"...

Bring it on cheer off!

HERE ARE THE LYRICS FOR THE CHEER/S THAT ARE FEATURED IN THIS CLIP:

Toros Cheerleaders: [Cheering at the game]

Let’s go Toros! [clap clap clapclap clap]

Let’s go Toros! [clap clap clapclap clap]

Let’s go Toros! [clap clap clapclap clap] Let’s go Toros! [clap clap clapclap clap]

Aaaaaaalllll right! We're sweet! We hip!
We’re the best we can’t be beat.

We're the best, our team's too cool.
We got the class to rock this school.

[The Toros continue chanting. Members of the Clovers cheerleading team chant these same words in the stands.]
Aww Yeah!
We bad, we got this game. We can't be had.
We're the best, so score them points.
You win the game, we'll rock this joint!

[The Toros Cheerleaders] Go Toros! Go Toros! Go, go, go Toros!

Clover Cheerleaders : Go Clovers! Go Clovers! Go, go, go Clovers!

[both Toros and Clovers] Our game is fierce and we are hip,
So get on back, you can't touch this!
Our game is bad, we're without fear,
So get that weak mess outta here!

The Toros end stop chanting. The members of the Clovers add these lines to that cheer:

Tried to steal our bit, but you look like sh-t*!
But we're the ones who are down with it!

The cheerleading squad whose team was defeated chants this cheer to make them feel better about their loss. I collected this exact same cheer from two young Black girls around 2006. For what it's worth, they attended an elementary school in a majority White suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

This is what happens every time in real life. any time a minority person does something, a white person wanna take it and call it theirs.

yep still happens till this day, they just reword it and call it their own. Or worse yet, put their name on your work and claim it as their own. I come back and play this clip when they try to pull that bulls&&t*, which is every single time. The clovers are original were as the toros are just some unoriginal second grade copy cats, oh and it's just a coincidence that they are white huh?"

"I don't see why everyone in the comments of this video is obsessed about thinking that whites stole everything from blacks. If whites think that stuff blacks originated is cool then I think blacks should be proud that they made something cool instead of being mad because they think someone stole it. They should only be mad if it was physical property stolen without permission. SO JUST CHILL OUT!"

"Thats the point. it was stolen property, music, dance routines etc... without permission. Whites made money stealing and didn't give any credit or shares to blacks"
