Lyrics to two examples of this song are also included in this post.

PANCOCOJAMS EDITOR'S NOTE
I wasn't familiar with this song until I happened upon it in the video that is given as Example #6 below. From a comment published in the discussion thread for Example #4, it appears that "We Have An Anchor" (or a similar title) is the theme song of the boys' organization known as "The Boys' Brigade".

I wonder how well this hymn or any of its gospelized versions are known in the United States, particularly in African American churches that don't have a large number of Caribbean members.

Example #1: Boys' Brigade - Will Your Anchor Hold

brawladdie1, Published on Oct 17, 2010

Many a Scots lad was kept on the straight and narrow through the turbulent years of adolescence and beyond, thanks to the Boys' Brigade. Its decent values of truthfulness, self-discipline, clean living, self-improvement, duty and cameraderie, and respect for elders lasted until the egotistical, hedonistic sixties made all that appear uncool."...

Words: Priscilla Jane Owens
Music: William James Kirkpatrick, 1882

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour's love.

Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear,
When the breakers roar and the reef is near?
While the surges rave and the wild winds blow,
Shall the angry waves then your bark o'erflow?

Will your eyes behold through the morning light,
The city of gold and the harbour bright?
Will you anchor safe by the heavenly shore
When life's storms are past for evermore?

Will Your Anchor Hold?

Lyrics
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

Chorus
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Stedfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior's love.

It is safely moored, 'twill the storm withstand,
For 'tis well secured by the Savior's hand;
And the cables passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy the blast, through strength divine.

It will firmly hold in the straits of fear,
When the breakers have told the reef is near;
Though the tempest rave and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o'erflow.

It will surely hold in the floods of death,
When the waters cold chill our latest breath;
On the rising tide it can never fail,
While our hopes abide within the veil.

"@Sharon Rose, according to Google search, First United Tabernacle International Ministries is located at 425 S Jefferson St, City of Orange, NJ 07050. Orange, New Jersey is near Newark, New Jersey and New York City (USA).

My guess is that this church was either founded by Jamaicans or has a lot of Jamaican members."

By Jerry Zolten.
"In Depression-Era America, two religious performing groups - one Black, one White - found their way into the fledgling American "roots" music recording industry. Both entities considered themselves "spiritual entertainers" and both had designs on professional careers. Their backgrounds and styles could not have contrasted more. One group succeeded, one did not. This paper offers an account of the Dixie Hummingbirds and the Buffalo Ragged Five with a focus on how time, place, economic need, and cultural context - including racism - shaped the sound and career path of each. The Dixie Hummingbirds would go on to become Grammy-winning icons in the genre of African American gospel. The Buffalo Ragged Five would leave a legacy that lived on primarily within family and community."

"Gloria Bailey is one of the most loved Jamaican gospel singers of the 60's & 70's - All our recordings were done under the Henry's Label - Her church did not believe in performing in Concerts so she did not appear on any big stage but her records sold all over Jamaica and in many places of the USA, Canada & England. Many Kids who used to listen when their parents played these songs are now grown and have pleasant memories of those precious moments -

Gloria is still alive and still singing - She has been thru some rough times in her life and although she is a household name among many Jamaica gospel song lovers she did not make a big living from her music - She did not really record them for money- It was all for the Lord."

ADDENDUM: "THE CARTER'S "GOSPEL SHIP"
The 1996 Black Gospel song "Take A Trip" (On That Good Ole Gospel Ship" is probably an evolution of 19th century African American religious songs that refer to "the Gospel ship".

 The Anglo American religious song "That Old Gospel Ship" which was recorded in 1935 by The Carters is probably also an evolution of  one or more of those 19th century religious song. The Carter's song has different lyrics and a different tune than "Take A Trip" (On That Good Ole Gospel Ship".

Here's some information about The Carter's "The Gospel Ship"
From https://www.countrythangdaily.com/old-gospel-ship/
..."
Dubbed as country music’s first family, The Carter Family did not only focus on recording country songs but also specialized in Southern gospel music. One of their beautiful gospel recordings was called the “Gospel Ship.”

[...]

Different sources provide varying information as to who the song’s real author is. AllMusic.com says the composer is Traditional and by this, it means the song has no established author. It belongs to those tunes dating back to the pre-publishing era. On the other hand, Classic Country Lyrics credited the writing to one of the group’s members, A.P. Carter."...

This article indicates that this song was first released in 2000. That information is contradicted by multiple online sites that give the year 1935 for the first time that The Carter's first recording the first recorded that song.  "The Gospel Ship" is included in The Carter's 2000 album entitled Can The Circle Be Unbroken: Country Music’s First Family.  Click https://genius.com/The-carter-family-gospel-ship-lyrics for the words to that song.
