LYRICS TO THIS FAVORITE
KING JESUS (WILL ROLL ALL BURDENS AWAY!)

VERSE 1
When I should feel so sad
Why does my soul feel so glad
Why does my heart feel so happy and gay
When all around me burdens roll
Yet I'm not worried at all
For when I pray
King Jesus will roll my burdens away

CHORUS
Roll them away
Roll them away
King Jesus will roll my burdens away
When I pray
He opens doors for me
Doors I'm unable to see
For when I pray
King Jesus will roll my burdens away

VERSE 2
While He is on the throne
I'm never left all alone
For He's my friend and He walks with me each day
All He asked me to do
Just keep His Word and be true
For when I pray
King Jesus will roll my burdens away

REPEAT CHORUS
Roll them away
Roll them away
King Jesus will roll my burdens away
When I pray
He opens doors for me
Doors I'm unable to see
For when I pray
King Jesus will roll my burdens away

REPEAT CHORUS
Roll them away
Roll them away
King Jesus will roll my burdens away
When I pray
He opens doors for me
Doors I'm unable to see
For when I pray
King Jesus will roll my burdens away

I think that the second verse in this rendition is:*
And with my cares and distress
And all my trials they oppress
At His dear feet all my burdens I lay.
For He will my hardships bear
And all my trials He'll share
And that's why I say
King Jesus will roll all burdens away.

-snip-

I think that the third verse in this rendition is:*
Like a king on his throne
I'm never left alone.
I have a Friend who walks with me all the way.
And all He asks me to do
Is keep His laws and be true.
And if I do
King Jesus will roll all burdens away.

[and the chorus for this rendition & the renditions I learned and many other people sing is as follow]

All away
[all away]
All away
[All away]
King Jesus will roll all burdens away
If to Him I pray.
He'll open doors for me**
doors I'm unable to see.
That's why I say
King Jesus will roll
all burdens away.

*Please add any corrections to my transcription of these words in the comment section of this post. Thanks

** This line is often sung as "He'll open doors wide for me".

INFORMATION ABOUT THIS GOSPEL SONG
From http://www.ask.com/answers/133521181/who-wrote-the-song-king-jesus-will-roll-all-burdens-away Who Wrote The Song King Jesus Will Roll All Burdens Away?"
bryantjonz, February 2012
"The song was written written by the renowned Kenneth Morris of Chicago's Martin and Morris Music Company in 1947..."
-snip-
That blogger adds lyrics for this song which includes this Verse #2:
And when my cares distress
And when my trials oppress
At his dear feet, all of my burdens I lay,
For He knows my hearts despair and all my trials share
That's Why I say King Jesus will roll all my burdens away
-snip-
One month before wrote his comment, another blogger on that page wrote "The Holmes Brothers typically wrote their own music, so it can only be assumed they also wrote King Jesus as they are the singers who did the original version. This vocal and instrumental trio is originally from Christchurch, Virginia. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holmes_Brothers for more on the same."
-snip-
However, bryantjonz responded to that suggestion by writing:
"(btw, in response to dunczn's answer, the Holmes Brothers gave Morris credit on their album)", and another blogger LordTap47 indicated that he had the sheet music for that song and the words and music were written by Kenneth Morris.

  2. I am old school ,I enjoy listening to traditional songs, since to me there is still powerful messages in the songs. Our young people need to go back to the basics ; Hymns , Anthems, Sacred Songs. Spiritual. There's nothing with contemporary . Heaven and earth will change , but not God's Word. Blessed it Assurance, Amazing Grace., Softly and Tender Jesus is Calling . Oh For A Closer Walk With Gard, The Beautiful Garden of Prayer, Why re-arrange the hymns of the church. They sound good in the arrange the artist written them.

    1. Thanks for your comment, Johnny Peoples.

I love old school songs. I have good memories about each of these songs that you mentioned.

But sometimes the arrangements of hymns that we consider "old school" might not be the original arrangements of those songs. Also, some newer versions of those hymns and other hymns may also be be spiritually uplifting - if not for me or for you, then for other people.

I just hope that people don't forget these old hymns- as other old hymns have been forgotten.

  3. As a child my mother and I would sing this song in kitchen as we cleaned, cooked or as she pressed my hair. Something about these old hymns makes my heart smile.
