    For the cultural record, "steppin' " ("stepping") usually refers either to the performance activity that originated and is usually associated with historically Black Greek letter fraternities/ sororities.

    "Stepping'' ("steppin' ") is also used as a referent for the partner dance styles that originated in Chicago (i.e. "Chicago stepping") and spread from that city elsewhere ( for instance, Detroit stepping").

    I'm curious if anyone can share other examples of line dancing being referred to as "steppin' " ("stepping") other than this song by Mike Clark, Jr.

    A recurring line In Mike Clark, Jr's song "Keep On Steppin' " is "They don't like it, but Imma keep on stepping". That song doesn't identify who the word "they" refers to. However, it seems likely to me that "they" means White people or the power structure that consist of mostly White people. If that guess is correct, then "steppin' " in Mike Clark, Jr's song may mean line dancing and may at the same time may also mean more than line dancing.
