This pancocojams post showcases one of several songs that were created about the fly that sat on United States Vice President Mike Pence's head for two minutes during the October 7, 2020 televised debate with Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Senator Kamala Harris. That song by Eclectic Method is composed of snippets of that debate that are mixed with the words "There's a fly on your head".

As background, this post provides an excerpt from an online article about tweets and other reactions to the fly landing on Pence's head during that debate

By Gil Kaufman, 10/8/2020
"That buzzing you heard last night (Oct. 7) was the sound of everyone watching the vice presidential debate between Senator Kamala Harris and Vice President Mike Pence losing their minds when a common housefly landed on Pence's head and parked there for more than two minutes.

In a 90-minute showdown that was, for the most part, much more civilized than the first presidential debate last week, the candidates mostly stuck to the serious topics. But, seriously, did you see that fly?

The jokes came at internet speed, with the fly locking down his own Twitter handle within minutes and one-liners flooding the zone so hard that more serious topics -- like Russian election interference and what Harris said was the Trump administration's botched response to the COVID-19 pandemic -- were quickly swatted to the side.

Shortly after the debate, "The Fly" was a trending topic on Twitter with more than 400,000 tweets shared within hours.

Speaking of swatting, Democratic candidate Joe Biden piled on just three minutes after the debate ended with a rapid-response fundraising appeal that featured a picture of the former two-term veep wielding a fly swatter and the message "Pitch in $5 to help this campaign fly." And that was just the beginning. The fly-by racked up hundreds of posts overnight, with musicians, actors, comedians and other celebs putting their spin on the random insect invasion that distracted us all.

Check out some of the best fly gags below from stars such as Foo Fighters, Sara Bareilles, LL Cool J, Chance the Rapper and Adam Rippon, as well as less-famous-but-still-funny people on Twitter, below.”…

The title for this article "Pretty Fly On A White Guy" is a parody of the 1998 hit song "Pretty Fly For A White Guy". Here's some information about that song from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Fly_(For_a_White_Guy)
"Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" is a song by American punk-rock band The Offspring. It is the fourth track from their fifth studio album, Americana (1998), and was released as the first single from the album. It achieved significant pop and rock and alternative radio play and popularity, peaking at number 53 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number 5 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number 3 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. It was a major success internationally, reaching number one in 10 countries, including Australia, where it stayed at number one for six weeks and was certified quadruple platinum. The song is a mocking portrayal of a white man who likes to act like an African-American stereotype. It was parodied by Weird Al Yankovic in Pretty Fly for a Rabbi.

The song appears as the seventh track on their Greatest Hits (2005)."...

Composition and lyrics

Beginning with a sample of the pseudo-German nonsense phrase "Gunter glieben glauchen globen" from Def Leppard's song "Rock of Ages", chanted as a replacement for the traditional "1, 2, 3, 4" to start the recording, the song ridicules a "wannabe gangsta" who is immersed in hip-hop culture not because he truly loves or understands it, but because it is trendy, makes him feel tough ("Friends say he's tryin' too hard, and he's not quite hip/But in his own mind, he's the, he's the dopest trip"), and because he believes it attracts women ("and all the girlies say I'm pretty fly, for a white guy"). The “Give it to me baby” verse was done by voice actress Nika Futterman.[4]

As summed up by Dexter Holland, the people described in the lyrics "are from, like, Omaha, Nebraska, regular white-bread boys, but who act like they're from Compton. It's so fake and obvious that they're trying to have an identity."[5] Holland detailed that he meets many teenagers like those in his native Orange County, "going to the mall, where they buy FUBU, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ice Cube's latest record."[6] Given rap culture is the starting point, Holland clarified that it was not an attack on African-Americans, but "poseurs of any kind",[7] but without wanting "to be preachy about it... We're getting amusement out of it more than anything else."[8]

The word "fly" in that song and that article's title is an African American Vernacular English word that means "hip", "cool", and/or attractive. That slang meaning of the word "fly" was most often used in the 1970s/1980s, but is still used in Hip Hop tracks and elsewhere today.

Kamala Harris (KH) – So let me tell you first of all -

You have a fly on your head.

You have a fly on your head.

Mike Pence (MP) – What Senator Harris says.

KH- You have a fly on your head.

The American people know what I’m talking about.

And you have a fly on your head.

MP- I’m pro-fly.

KH- You have a fly on your head.

You owe money to somebody.

You have a fly on your head.

I’m speaking.

You have a fly on your head.

MP- The reality is -

KH- You have a fly on your head.

That is a fact.

The word "fly" in that tweet is a play on the standard "insect" meaning of that word and the African American Vernacular English meaning of "cool", "hip".
