"We Are All In The Dumps For Diamonds Are Trumps" - A Nursery Rhyme That Includes The Word "Trump" & A 1984 Children's Song "Nellie The Elephant" That Includes The Word "Trump"

Edited by Azizi Powell

This pancocojams post departs from this blog's stated purpose of showcasing "the music, dances, language practices, & customs of African Americans and of other people of Black descent throughout the world."

In addition to those topics, I'm also interested in children's recreational rhymes and children's songs -whether their origin or adaptations are Black or not. I'm interested in these children's recreational rhymes and children's songs, in part, because Black children could have chanted or sung those compositions and, in part, because I usually just like the ones I showcase.

However, this pancocojams post showcases a Nursery rhyme and a children's song for political reasons much more than for folkloric, recreational, entertainment, or aesthetic reasons.

PANCOCOJAMS EDITOR'S NOTE
This pancocojams post came about because I'm curious about the seemingly lack of rhymes created by children that include the name "Donald Trump" or include the last name "Trump".  And why is that? After all, it's easy to find English word that rhyme with "trump" - "dump", "hump" and "rump" immediately come to mind. But "Donald Trump" is no where to be found in the children's created rhymes that are compiled in these two pancocojams posts: Part I: (rhyme titles beginning with A-L) http://pancocojams.blogspot.com/2015/08/playground-rhymes-that-include-names-of_30.html and Part II (rhyme titles beginning with M-Z) http://pancocojams.blogspot.com/2015/08/playground-rhymes-that-include-names-of_54.html.

It's possible that there are some children's composed rhymes that include the name "Donald Trump" or the last name "Trump" but those examples haven't found their way online. Part of the blame for this might the well intended ban on comments that YouTube instituted in 2019 https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-47408969. Comments that were previously posted to most YouTube videos that featured children ages 13 and under disappeared when YouTube disallowed the comment feature for those videos. And I'm sure that I wasn't the only rhyme collector that mourned the lost of those potentially treasure trove of comments that were there and comments that could have been posted.

But."it is what is it".

And so, without further editorial comments, and with thanks to the composers and publishers of this rhyme and performers of this song, and without forgetting to say that

all copyrights remain with their owners...Let's get on with the show! .

SHOWCASE NURSERY RHYME -
WE'RE ALL IN THE DUMPS FOR DIAMONDS ARE TRUMPS
"We're all in the dumps, for diamonds are trumps,
And the kittens are gone to St. Paul's;
All the babies are bit, and the moon's in a fit,
And the houses are built without walls."

-snip-
It's ironic that the symbol for Donald Trump's Republican party is an elephant.
From https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_(United_States)#:~:text=The%20Republican%20Party%20itself%20is,pictured)%2C%20by%20Thomas%20Nast .The United States Republican Party is one of the two biggest political parties in the United States of America. The other big party is the Democratic Party. The United States has many other small parties known as third parties.

The Republicans are often called "the right" or "conservatives". The Republican Party itself is also known as the GOP, which stands for "Grand Old Party". The symbol of the Republican party is the elephant. This symbol was first used in 1874 in a political cartoon (pictured), by Thomas Nast.[24]"...
