Hayli Gubii, a small volcano in the Afar region of Ethiopia
erupted in spectacular fashion today November 23rd 2025 after having been
dormant for 10,000+ years. For decades pressure has been building across much
of the East African Rift Valley from the relentless magmatic activity of the
African Superplume actively tearing the continent apart, and this volcanic
eruption could be the first signs of large-scale pressure release across the
entire zone. Geophysicist Stefan Burns reports

PANCOCOJAMS EDITOR'S NOTE
I've emphasized the phrase "Boom Shakalaka" in the title of this post and I've given special attention to the comments in the discussion thread of Showcase Video #1 that consist of or that include the phrase "boom shakalaka".
Here's an excerpt from an AI excerpt about that phrase (Retrieved on November 25,2025):
"Musical origins: The phrase's phonetic structure can be
traced to the "boom-laka-laka-laka" refrain in Sly and the Family
Stone's 1969 song "I Want to Take You Higher".
Film influence: The altered version,
"boom-shaka-laka-laka," appeared in the 1981 film Stripes, and the
phrase was noted by a scriptwriter for NBA Jam, says Wiktionary.
Video game popularization: In 1993, the phrase was used by
NBA Jam announcer Tim Kitzrow to exclaim over a slam dunk, leading to its
widespread popularity."...
-end of quote-
Geophysicist Stefan Burns has used the phrase "boom shakalaka" in his podcasts to refer to "coronal mass ejections" (an event in which a large cloud of energetic and highly magnetized plasma erupts from the solar corona into space, causing radio and magnetic disturbances on the earth.
Stefan Burns' use of the phrase "boom shakalaka" to refer to coronal mass ejections, and also to refer to volcanic eruptions has resulted in that phrase invariably being used by some commenters in discussion threads of his podcast. Read examples of those types of comments below.in this pancocojams post. Although "boom shakalaka" is usually used as an exclamation", notice that in one example of this compilation, it is used as a noun (i.e. "boom shakalakas".

SHOWCASE VIDEO #2 - A Major Explosive Volcanic Eruption Just Occurred in Africa; Geologist Analysis
GeologyHub, Nov 23, 2025
A major explosive volcanic eruption unexpectedly began this
morning at Ethiopia's Hayli Gubbi volcano, leading to the generation of an ash
cloud the size of Portugal. Lengthy pyroclastic flows were generated, and heavy
ashfall has occurred. Today's video discusses the ongoing eruption via the
knowledge and analysis of a geologist.
This video's thumbnail image will display as 1 of 2 different images for different viewers.

Note: Since I do not currently have any non-satellite images of the Hayli Gubbi volcano, I am using a 2018 Kilauea eruption photo to represent part of its current activity.

"This is because of the current ongoing
Geomagnetic Excursion (Pole Shift). The Earth's rotation is speeding up and
pushing magma towards the surface. This is also why the AMOC is waning. Hayli
Gubii hasn't erupted since the Younger-Dryas and the last Geomagnetic Excursion
called the Gothenburg Excursion. The Phlegraean Fields Caldera are also
becoming highly active."

For anyone that doesn't know, the African continent is slowly ripping apart. If you look up the East African Rift, it'll explain what is happening.
These volcanoes are right on the rift. So they'll probably become more common as time goes on."

schedule to warn a relevant agency, possibly preventing a 21st century repeat
of British Airways Flight 009 (1982) or KLM Flight 867 (1989). If you go to the
VAAC Toulouse website, and look at the Hayli Gubbi volcano notice, I am listed

informed them about details of the eruption)."

"Flight radar shows that the area at the moment is being
avoided by aircraft, but flight IYE611 (Yemenia Fligth 661, an A320) is still
flying directly into the area of the ash cloud over the Red Sea, as of me
writing this. It's a direct flight from Cairo to Aden. It's at 35,000 feet.
Most flights are going directly west of the area before turning east, south of
the ash cloud, above Somalia.

5. @random-lankan
@IrrelevantHacks Flight IY611 would have had to fly into the
area anyway, since the ash cloud stretched directly over Aden. Thankfully, it
seems like the flight had made it to Aden safely."

"There are many volcanoes and some are in remote locations
with hardly anyone living nearby. Someone needs to pay for 24 x7 monitoring
equipment and maintain it. And need a
few people constantly monitoring. Thus nobody is going to monitor a (mostly)
inactive volcano in the middle of nowhere.
Which sometimes, suddenly become rather very very active again."

The eastern part of Africa is splitting off and this will

From your observation it seems to me that the volcano should have been under

vigilantly, after something had changed after 60 years."

Are you comparing satellite images every hour, looking for differences? Can this be done by AI or are there any alert features included in the software?

Volcano erupts for first time in 12,000 years: "Like a sudden bomb"
The Hayli Gubbi volcano, located in Ethiopia's Afar region about 500 miles northeast of Addis Ababa near the Eritrean border, erupted on Sunday for several hours.
The volcano, which rises about 1,500 feet yards in altitude, sits within the Rift Valley, a zone of intense geological activity where two tectonic plates meet.
