WHAT "LEVEL UP" MEANS IN CIARA'S R&B SONG
https://genius.com/Ciara-level-up-lyrics
“Level Up” is a single by singer-songwriter Ciara. The track is set to appear on her upcoming seventh album, her first under Warner Bros Records, and her own imprint Beauty Marks Ent.
The official remix/edit featuring Missy Elliott and Fatman Scoop was released as a promo on July 26th, 2018.
The song is an uptempo self love anthem about realising your worth and stepping up you[r] game. The title of the song is a reference to the controversial instagram post Ciara shared months ago. The post is a 2016 clip showing John Gray’s sermon in which he speaks to women about what they can do to find a husband. The post was accompanied by the hashtag ‘’#LevelUp. Don’t Settle'‘ and sparked thousands of reactions either supporting or condemning Ciara’s approach towards women.
The dance heavy music video for the track, directed and choreographed by Parri$ Goebel, was released the same day."

LYRICS: LEVEL UP
(written and performed by Ciara Princess Harris)
[Chorus]
Five, four, three, two, one
Leggo! (watch me)
Level up, level up, level up, level up, level up
Level up, level up, level up, level up, level up
All this on me so yummy, all this sauce so yummy
Know you want this yummy, yummy all in your tummy
Level up, level up, level up, level up, level up
Level up, level up, level up, level up, level up
All this on me so yummy, all this sauce so yummy
Know you want this yummy, yummy all in your tummy
[Verse 1]
Them old mistakes are gone, I won’t do them no more
That’s old news, there’s new news, I done did that before
I turned nothing to something, my comeback on one hunnid'
Less talking, more action, you just gon' see Ci coming
I just keep elevating, no losses, just upgrading
My lessons, made blessings, I turned that into money
Thank God I never settled, this view is so much better
I’m chilling, I’m winning, like on another level
[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, you can talk all you want
See me, I stayed prayed up
Nothing I’m afraid of
And I can have it all
[Verse 2]
Fake friends get dropped like weight (oh)
Team love, don’t want no hate (nope)
I’m grindin' (oh) , I’m shinin' (oh)
Up, up, up on my way (aye)
Thank God I never settled (nope)
This view is so much better
I’m chilling, I’m winning
Like on another level
[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, you can talk all you want
See me, I stayed prayed up
Nothing I’m afraid of
And I can have it all
[Bridge]
All this oh so level, on another level
Elevate your level, le-le-le-level
Graduate your level, there’s no one on it
Nah, nah, nah (ay)
All this oh so level, on another level
Elevate your level, le-le-le-level
Graduate your level, there’s no one on it
Nah, nah, nah (ay)
[Chorus]
Level up, level up, level up, level up, level up
Level up, level up, level up, level up, level up
All this on me so yummy, all this sauce so yummy
Know you want this yummy, yummy all in your tummy
Level up, level up, level up, level up, level up
Level up, level up, level up, level up, level up

As an aside, all of the women in the official video for Ciara's "Level Up" song wore their hair in braids except for Ciara and a woman who wore her hair in "Bantu knots". One part of the video where that woman can be best seen is at 2:00 (the woman in the first row on the right).
ReplyDeleteHere's some information about "Bantu knots" from https://www.stylecraze.com/articles/best-bantu-knots-hairstyles/#gref
"Bantu knots are a protective hairstyle. They look like mini twisted buns. Bantu knots come to us from South Africa. The hairstyles that hail from there are truly magnificent. Those African women really know how to style their hair! A twisted (or braided) portion of hair wrapped around itself to form a bun is called a Bantu knot. Bantu knots are also used to coil or curl hair. The partitioning of hair plays quite an important role when styling Bantu knots."...

That website includes photos of "Bantu knots" and instructions about how to create Bantu knot hairstyles (including "twist outs").
