COMMENTS ABOUT MAHALIA JACKSON'S VERSIONS OF "GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN"
In the three examples of "Go Tell It On The Mountain" that are showcased below, Gospel singer Mahalia Jackson followed the same lyrical pattern:
1. begin with a four line chorus sung two times (sometimes starting with an interjection such as "Hallelujah" or "Everybody")
2. followed by a four line verse
3. followed by the chorus sung one time
4. Followed by another four line verse
5. ending with the chorus sung one time

Example #3: Go Tell It On The Mountain - Mahalia Jackson,"Christmas With Mahalia Jackson"

Mahalia Jackson - Christmas With Mahalia Jackson

Despite the inclusion of seasonal favorites like "Silent Night, Holy Night," Christmas with Mahalia Jackson is less a collection of Yuletide music than traditional gospel performances; there's nothing wrong with these renditions of "Go Tell It on the Mountain," "The Lord's Prayer," and "His Eye Is on the Sparrow," of course, it's simply that listeners in search of a more secular Jackson Christmas record need to look elsewhere.
