In the context of this song the "house" means "God's house" (the church/Christian faith).
In the Bible, raining fire refers to the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:24) and to “tongues" (flames) of fire” (Acts 2:3) at Pentecost.

"According to the credits on the back of the album, Marvin Winans wrote It's Gonna Rain, Lord Let Me Try Again, and Never Say No To Jesus. He is also credited with writing You Are Everything To Me on the Miracle-Live album"

This is truly one of the classics of contemporary gospel choir music (if there is such a thing a classic contemporary). I'm glad everyone is enjoying this song. I think it is probably one of the best ever written by Marvin Winans and who better to introduce it to the world than the Tommies!

"Wow!! I didnt know Marvin Winans wrote this song?! This was the jam back in the day!!"
**
minjalewissr, 2010
The credits on the album cover say Marvin Winans. I just double checked the credits on the album itself and it says Andre Crouch. It appears the back of the album cover where most copyright info was printed is wrong and has been since 1982.

"Andrae` Crouch wrote another song titled "It's Gonna Rain" copyright 1981 Bud Johnson Songs/Crouch Music/ASCAP/admin. by EMI-CMP. It's from the Light Records release More of the Best (1981).
I think it would be rather ironic if he wrote two songs with the same title but much different lyrics."

"Andrae Crouch has a song titled "It's Gonna Rain, but the lyrics and music are totally different...I like this one waaay better : )"

"Thanks for asking that question [about this sound file crediting Marvin Winans instead of the singing group TCS]
"Pastor Winans wrote this song. TCS (Thompson Community Singers, AKA - "The Tommies") are usually always associated with Rev. Milton Brunson, but I wanted people to know that the album information credits Pastor Winans as the writer. I actually changed the title of the clip when I found out the name of the soloist because I also wanted people to know who she is, as there was no information for any of the soloists on the album. I hope this was helpful to you."

"A couple of the songs like It's Gonna Rain and Jesus Is A Rock have been re-released on compliations, but the entire recordings haven't been re-released to my knowledge. I would be one of the first to get my copies if they were though. As you all can probably tell, these clips were made from the albums so they sound like old school radio, and nothing at all like a CD."

"Love this song. We only singed the introduction of this song, before we marched in the choir stand on during a concert. I want to get the album."

"I was like 7 or 8 years old going to Hopewell Missionary baptist Church. This was my favorite song. After my mother made me put on one tennis shoe and one church shoe because i would hide my shoes thinkin she might say stay home. NOT SO... AND I WAS GLAD TO HAVE A MOTHER AND NOT A FREIND.!!!!"

"Hi everyone. I think this song holds a little bit more of a special place in my heart and life than you all could imagine. 27 years ago I was in the belly of the lead vocalist, Delores Powell as she was recording and touring. My mom is still a powerhouse in ministry to this day, and as we all know the song is still in regular rotation, even tho she got zero credit. She will always and forever be my hero, musically an in life. FYI...she was very grown even though she sounds 13. –Jason"

"What happened to GOSPEL music? Anybody fell me?
This was REAL music and still is. I was knee high when this song was out.
Somewhere we've gone wrong."

"You're right! This IS good gospel singing! I think back in the 70s when Walter Hawkins and Love Center revolutionized gospel music, every artist after that thought it was their duty to continue to update, and upgrade (so they thought). Same issue as facebook has, some changes are good, and some should be left alone. A lot of the latest lacks anointing, and that's what makes the difference!"

"I enjoy old school sanging, its telling a msg that God will be sending FIRE this time, so get it right with Him and repent of your sinful ways, turn to Him in Faith, getting BAPTIZED in Jesus name and let Him fill you with the Holy Ghost...speaking in an unknown tounge as the Spirit give utterance:)..Acts 2:38..TME is running out sooner than you think. Seek God now while the door is still open (Heavens door)....CRYLOUD"

"YES! Great song about MANY things--the latter rains of PENTECOST, the COMING JUDGEMENT coming upon mankind...a gospel CLASSIC with a REAL TEXT!"

Tametrias Miller, 2013
"This is real gospel music. We need to start singing songs like this in our churches again."

Example #2: Marvin Winans Taking Us Back
jrmyjnz Published on Jul 16, 2012
Bishop-Elect Marvin Winans opens the service with Come On In This House
-snip-
This rendition of "It's Gonna Rain" features the chorus repeated a number of times, interspersed with testifying (spoken words about the Christian faith itself and/or how it manifests in people's lives). Here's my transcription of that chorus:
Come on in this house, children.
It's gonna rain.
[You oughta*] Come on in this house.
It’s gonna rain.
[Yeah*], Come on in this house.
It’s gonna rain.
It’s gonna rain down fire.
It’s gonna rain.
-snip-
Substitute other interjections such as "Church you betta" or "I said".
Come on in this house, children.
It's gonna rain.
[You oughta] Come on in this house.
It’s gonna rain.
[Yeah], Come on in this house.
It’s gonna rain.
It’s gonna rain down fire.
It’s gonna rain.
[Repeat entire verse as many times as you wish]
