Two Zambian Gospel Songs: “Sangalala” by Zambian Gospel Group Higher Calling &” Moyo wanga Sangala” by St Ignitius Catholic choir

Edited by Azizi Powell

This post showcases two examples of Gospel songs from Zambia, South Africa which include the Nyanjan word "Sangalala" or a form of that word in their title. This post also provides some information about the nation of Zambia, and provides the English translation of the word "Sangalala".

Unfortunately, as of this date I've not been able to find any lyrics in English or otherwise for these songs. Nor have I been able to find any information about the vocal group "Higher Calling" or the Catholic church choir which is also featured in this post.

INFORMATON ABOUT ZAMBIA
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zambia
"Zambia /ˈzæmbiə/, officially the Republic of Zambia, is a landlocked country in southern Africa. The neighbouring countries are the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Tanzania to the north-east, Malawi to the east, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia to the south, and Angola to the west. The capital city is Lusaka, located in the south-central part of the country. The population is concentrated mainly around Lusaka in the south and the Copperbelt Province to the northwest...

The official language of Zambia is English, which is used to conduct official business and is the medium of instruction in schools. The main local language, especially in Lusaka, is Nyanja. However, Bemba and Nyanja are spoken in the urban areas in addition to other indigenous languages which are commonly spoken in Zambia. Others are Kaonde, Tonga, Lunda and Luvale, which feature on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC)'s local languages section. The total number of languages spoken in Zambia is 73...

Zambia is officially a Christian nation according to the 1996 constitution,[32] but a wide variety of religious traditions exist. Traditional religious thoughts blend easily with Christian beliefs in many of the country's syncretic churches. Christian denominations include: Roman Catholic, Anglican, Pentecostal, New Apostolic Church, Lutheran, Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh-day Adventist, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a variety of Evangelical denominations"...

"Zed" is the contemporary colloquial term for "Zambia" and "Zambian". I'd love to know when "Zed" was first coined & used with those meanings.

  1. Hi there, I read your blog and felt encouraged to write the lyrics for you. I barely speak nyanja and so there could be a couple of spelling mistakes.

Ndine Kristu ndiku kondwera ndiri nawo moyo wina

Ambuye ndipurumuseni Ambuye ndipurumuseni x2 ne
